Band Website: None, but have a look at mririshbastard.com
Band Members: Who ever is daring enough to have your man playing along.
To date, those daredevils include: ..........................................Mr IRISH BASTARD, from whom your man received a fully unexpected email on Saint Patricks Day 2008, inquiring whether he'd like to join them on the road for some time. Some 7 months and some 30 gigs down the line, that 'some time' fortunately still lasts. GRAND !! Of late, the privilege of playing accordion with Mr IRISH BASTARD is being shared between your man and incredible Ina !!To his own surprise, your man found himself on stage with The MAHONES for 13 gigs of their 2008 European summer tour. Your man did play a tune with FinnyMcConnel backstage in 2007. But he never dreamt that he would ever join yet another of his heroes on stage for the real thing, let alone that this would include playing in London and being joined on stage by some of The Popes.
Again to his surprise, your man recently got a third invitation, this time from his Dutch heroes Circle J, a band he and his lassie had gone out of their way to see a number of times. Circle J are curious to find out what the accordion can add to their sound. Your man joined them on stage for a couple of songs once and is currently working on mastering their repertoire for a proper debut on stage with them in December.
His pal Edward, with whom he plays their own stuff in the Dutch language as De NACHT (The NIGHT), often supported by distinguished friends (pics below also include various means of traveling to and fro gigs through your man's home town Delft). The ACHIEVERS, a Celt-style band from his home town Delft, with whom he and his pal played an enjoyable one-off gig on a barge in one of the Delft canals this August.
Influences: One SHANE MacGOWAN, there's only one SHANE MacGOWAN !!!!!!!! .......................
The pics below feature Shane MacGowan and The Pogues with Sinead O'Connor during the Christmas gig in Belfast on December 22th 2007.
Second main influence are Flogging Molly, who the Dutch Irish Bastard saw gigging in Holland from the Swagger times onward. Earlier, your man sometimes dreamt of getting together a band performing songs in Dutch with a Flogging Molly style melody and energy. The pics below feature Flogging Molly in Melkweg, Amsterdam, May 2008. At another occasion, your man had the pleasure to meet several members of Flogging Molly. Decent guys, who one can have a decent chat with over a decent pint, as he had the privilege to find out after a show.
The third but by no means least important influence are Mr. Irish Bastard. Your man was christened The Dutch Irish Bastard when he joined Mr. Irish Bastard on the road for a while in 2008. The pictures below feature him and some other Bastards during a gig in Chiasso, Switzerland, July 2008, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the local Irish pub. The theme of the event had to do with how to quench the eternal thirst for beer, or words to that effect, words lost neither on the band nor on the audience on that particular night.
And in Holland: Boh Foi Toch, Pater Moeskroen, Rapalje, Rowwen Hèze, and Trio Bier.
Sounds Like: Life is too short not to enjoy it.
