Anne Akiko Meyers is celebrated as one of the world’s premiere concertviolinists, regularly performing in the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe.The renowned soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and educator hassought to reach wider audiences by premiering new works written for herand showcase under-performed or rarely heard works with a quest forexperimentation and open dialogue.She has premiered a number of works by composers such as David Baker,Mason Bates, John Corigliano, Nathan Currier, Roddy Ellias, Judd Greenstein,Karl Amadeus Hartmann, Jennifer Higdon, Akira Miyoshi, Arvo Part, ManuelPonce, Somei Satoh, Teddy Shapiro, Joseph Schwantner, and Ezequiel Viñao.Starting her studies at age 4, she first performed with a local orchestra at theage of 7, then burst into national prominence at age 11, when she twiceperformed on ‘The Tonight Show’ with Johnny Carson and appeared with theLos Angeles Philharmonic. The following year she made her New YorkPhilharmonic debut with Zubin Mehta conducting. She was soon performingthroughout the United States, Japan, Australia and Europe and by the timeher debut disc of the Barber and Bruch violin concertos was released at age18 and recorded at the Abbey Road Studios in London, she was recognizedas one of the stars of her generation. Today, Meyers has been the featuredsoloist at virtually every classical venue, including Carnegie Hall, theConcertgebouw, Lincoln Center, Hollywood Bowl, Suntory Hall, and Sydney’sOpera House.In 2009, Meyers launched a highly anticipated new album entitled ‘Smile’for Koch Records, E1 Entertainment with pianist, Akira Eguchi. It featuresspecial arrangements of works like ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, CharlieChaplin’s ‘Smile’ and Astor Piazzolla’s Tangos. Also featured is acollaboration Meyers arranged of ‘Moonlight Over the Ruined Castle’ byRentaro Taki and ‘Sea in Spring’ by Michio Miyagi as well as thepremiere of ‘Fantaisie’ by Olivier Messiaen, Arvo Part’s meditative‘Spiegel im Spiegel’ and the Schubert Fantasy.Meyers recently collaborated with jazz legend, Wynton Marsalis who haswritten new cadenzas for Mozart’s G Major violin concerto for her.As a recording artist, Meyers has been featured on close to 20 albums onthe Avie, Camerata, Hyperion, Koch, Naxos, RCA Victor Red Seal, RPO andthe SonyBMG labels. Meyers was awarded the prestigious Avery FisherCareer Grant, the only artist to be the sole recipient of this annual award atthe age of 23. Her numerous television credits include an A&E Networktelecast from the Casals Festival with the Montreal Symphony and KrzysztofPenderecki, a PBS broadcast with the Boston Pops Orchestra and JohnWilliams, her appearances on “The Tonight Show†with Johnny Carson as wellas the "Emmy Award Show.†She performed in front of 750,000 people inSydney, Australia's Harbour, celebrating their 250th Bicentennial, and fordignitaries around the globe, including the Emperor and Empress of Japan.Meyers has been featured in numerous print and television commercialsincluding being selected to be photographed by Annie Leibovitz for the AnneKlein “Women of Substance†fashion campaign that appeared in magazinesaround the world. Recently, she appears in ads for Thomastik-Infeld’s VisionTitanium strings, for whom she is an endorsing artist.Meyers studied with Dorothy DeLay and Masao Kawasaki at the JuilliardSchool, Josef Gingold at Indiana University and Alice and EleonoreSchoenfeld of the Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. Sherecently hosted a residency as Regent’s Lecturer at the University ofCalifornia, Los Angeles, the first time in UCLA’s musical history to bestow thishonor on a violinist.
