I'd like to meet:
Join the Camapign to End Hunger!
The Campaign to End Hunger calls upon everyone to get involved. It calls on people to write government officials and local newspapers, and become engaged in defining public policy. It also calls for everyone to spread the word to civic groups, congregations, friends and co-workers, that hunger exists, probably right in their neighborhood, and without their help it will get worse. The Campaign to End Hunger calls for financial support to buy food and everything necessary to collect, pack and distribute that food. It calls for volunteer hours to keep the Food Bank going, so that more money can go to product and services.
The Campaign To End Hunger came about as a response to four elements in Food Bank development:
 An Oct 2004 Forbes Fund survey that found that awareness of hunger as a problem in the community was low – only 13%.
 A Blueprint to End Hunger – the Food Bank has embraced the goals of this 2004 document on the national commitment to cut food insecurity in half by 2010.
 The Gap Study – This study found that in some counties within our service area as little as 10% of eligible clientele was receiving service.
 The Strategic Plan – as a result of the above, the Food Bank engaged in a comprehensive process of developing a long-range strategic plan. One element of the Strategic Plan was the Public Relations component: raising awareness, visibility and presence in the community, and stimulating citizens to participate in ending hunger.
For the past two years, the call to action of the Campaign to End Hunger : Donate, Volunteer and Speak Out has been communicated to the general public through multi-media public education campaign that includes print advertisements, television spots aired on WTAE and KDKA, billboards, newsletters and website.
The Kid’s Campaign to End Hunger
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank has created the Kids Campaign to End Hunger in response to the growing number of children who are reaching out to the Food Bank and showing us how they are helping kids in need right here in southwestern Pennsylvania. We want to share their stories and encourage other young people to follow their lead.
The campaign will teach kids that don’t need to be grown up, to have money, or to be “in charge†to make the world a better place.
The message of making a difference is simple: do something. Do what you can. Get involved. Or as Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.â€
That’s why The Campaign to End Hunger’s motto is: “Donate. Volunteer. Speak Out.â€
In our experience, kids work harder and enjoy activities more when they think up their own ideas. The Food Bank encourages kids to design their own event or party, or come up with a new idea, like 7-year old Jacob, who asked adults to donate money for each hit he got during his t-ball games. He raised more than $200!
Every single person can help end hunger in America. Little things add up to big changes. When you take part in making your community a better place, you help yourself to become a better person. So get started!Sensible charitable giving can be as good a lesson as any for kids learning to evaluate the world. The goal of the Kids Campaign to End Hunger is to help kids see how they can make a difference, and then they can inspire other kids to join the Kids’ Campaign to End Hunger. Kids can change the world! In a community where only a small percentage of us believe hunger truly exists, this remains yet another barrier to overcome. Hunger is very real to many of the children sitting in our schools and places of worship; to many working families who are trying to make ends meet; and to many of our senior citizens who experience financial difficulties and simply do not have enough food to get through the month.
