The Soul & Funk Session has now opened itself up to all styles under the title of:
Monday Night Pro Jam Session
Michael has moved on to play the bad-guy, "Messala", in the world tour of BEN HUR LIVE ( www.benhurlive.com ) and passed the organisational duties for our session to his commrades, Jürgen Bailey and Mike Watts.
Actually this is ÃœBER UNS ( about us ). Our Monday Soul & Funk Session couldn't happen if we didn't have many people involved. Turn OFF the iPod (scroll down a bit, it's on the left of the page) and watch this video to give you an idea of what's in store!
I ( MK ) was born in Augusta, Georgia and raised in St. Louis; I have to admit, this music is in my blood. I sing and dance, play keys, guitar, bass and harmonica (chromatic/blues). I also love to arrange vocals - a cappella = AMEN! I've been living in Germany for 15 years.Feel free to find out more about me at: www.michaelknese.wordpress.com . I would like to introduce some other people; I'll let them tell their own stories, but here are just a few of the ways they contribute to our Monday Soul & Funk Session...Leo Prehn, from Rickenbacker's Music Inn, has offered us this platform for our friends and guests. Check out his website:

or come by in person ( Bundesallee 194b, Berlin ). There is a wonderful atmosphere there; kitchen, bar, live music, and YOU!With Jürgen Bailey ( guitar, www.jay-bailey.com ), Mike Watts (bass), and Joe Dicarlo (drums, www.myspace.com/dicarloproductions ) we've got a houseband prepared for anything you throw at us. Actually, we'd like to throw some things at you! Songlists, audio files, charts, lyrics and other sources of learning materials are constantly being offered forth so that when we get together we are free to make some cool music. Aside from just JAMMIN' and improvising when it feels right; we have these songs to pick out of our soul-soup. Add a dash or two of that funky stuff! Mmmm, mmm, good! Want some? Just ask! Please take a look at my blogs (Setlists, Woodshed and Wishlists): they are an updated collection of the songs we've collectively suggested to play, the artist, the key in which we choose to play and various links for reference. You can also download this as a Word document from the Ayos iShare widget on the top left of this page. Use it as your first source of learning and preparation. I also have a library of lyrics and chords.
Just ask!

.. Please add your ideas and suggestions!!!Jazz has it's own "standards" and musicians often bring their fake books. Blues and Rock are easier, staying around that 3-chord structure. We have the opportunity and forum to cultivate "standards" for the Soul & Funk repertoire.
