I am here for Friends

About Me

Well, let's see...
I've been described by a couple of people as one of a kind, and I think that's true...or at least I feel quite unique. I'm not sure how I became so idiosyncratic, but my quirkiness is just part of my personality. Beyond the quirkiness, which may include threatening to set things on fire, I'm gay, I don't believe in a god (or an afterlife) and I tend to lean left politically (though I consider myself an independent). I do a lot of thinking and reading about the world, but a lot of times, the more I learn, the more confounded I become...interesting how that works...
After being a not-so-happy person for several years, I've finally found some peace and contentment in my life. I am currently attending a community college (after spending two years at a four year university pursuing a music degree) expanding my mind a bit, and trying to figure out what kind of career I want to pursue. I work at a bank to support this learning habit.
In my free time, I listen to music (a lot of a local band that I adore named Popular Genius; check out their website by the same name), chat on the internet with my small but amazing group of friends, and sometimes I'm blessed to see some of them in person.Myspace Graphics

My Interests

Where do I start...
psychology, ethics, philosophy, literature, music, law, politics, playing piano (though I don't play anymore), NPR, chocolate, food, chatting online...and probably a dozen others that I'm leaving off here

I probably should mention that I do *not* like sports.

I'd like to meet:

Right now, I'm looking for friends.

I'm not actively seeking a serious romantic relationship right now, however, if someone romantically interesting comes my way, I might explore the possibilities...

Music:

Popular Genius, of course, lol

Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff (I have a soft spot for piano), Verdi, Gluck, John Williams, James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, Michelle Branch, Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, Phil Collins...

Movies:

The Harry Potter movies, StarGate, American History X...I don't visit the theater very often.

Television:

I really don't watch very much television anymore. Most of my time is spent either listening to NPR or reruns of This American Life online. If I do watch TV, usually it's catching an episode of The Simpsons, Futurama, or Family Guy. I love me some South Park though.

Books:

The Harry Potter series, anything by Camus, or Kafka, Charles Baxter (especially Saul and Patsy)...I've been reading a lot of books on politics lately.

Heroes:

I think people are heroes in different ways. Those who battle for true equality. Thomas Jefferson, Ghandi, lots of Buddhists, MLK Jr. I'm a big freak about things being just. Those that make it so or at least try get big brownie points with me.Right now, there are a lot more antiheroes that come to mind, and that's depressing.

My Blog

So, I think I'm coming out of my anti-social phase

er, that about sums it up; more later.
