About Me
Ele Raik is professional estonian musician, jazz singer and classical oboe player.Ele has been singing with several jazz bands in Estonia e.g. Eletrio, Blue Bossa Band, Django Band, Horre Zeiger's Big Band, EMA Big Band and made a good cooperation as well with estonian jazz musicians and also with musicians from other countries like Mexico and Finland.Ele's singing style is based on traditional jazz music. At the same time, she is very keen on Brazilian music and rhythms, as well as French chanson from 1930-ies. Ele sings always in original languages, in addition to Estonian, in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
She has performed in all main Estonian jazz festivals (Jazzkaar, Studentjazz, Tabasalu Bigbandfest, Haapsalu jazz festival “Only Girls in Jazzâ€, Viljandi Folk Music Festival) with different programmes; she has also given concerts in Mexico, in Veracruz state. Ele has played and sang also in musicals and dance shows, e.g she sang one of the main roles in the musicals “Little Shop of Horrors†and “Miss Saigonâ€.In autumn 2000 she won a spezial prize for compulsory song at Raimond Valgre competition in Tartu, in Estonia. In 2001, 2002 and 2006 she was successful at the competition of Estonian Young Jazz singers. In 2001 she got the 3rd prize at the Competition of improvisation in singing “Saaremaa valss of R. Valgre“, in 2007 she was selected to attend the final competition of XII International Jazz Singers Contest “Lady Summertimeâ€, held in Finland.In the classical music field, Ele plays the oboe and english horn in Estonian National Opera and is the member of the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians, Eesti Interpreetide Liit (EIL).
