Rick has been involved in music since he was 12 years old when he started out as a drummer. He won many blue ribbons for his talent as a drummer.
He began playing drums in elementary school. By the time he was in high school he was playing in the high school marching band directed by his hero and mentor Mr. Phillip Barranco. During this time Rick played in a band at his local church and continued to play in this band until his entrance into college. Rick attended college on what else but a music scholarship. During his time in college Rick began singing at the urging of his professors. While in college Rick eventually took 2 semesters of vocal instruction. Rick began his singing debut again in his local church. While Country Music has always been a favorite of Rick's, it is no wonder that his chosen style of music is Christian Country Music. Some of Rick's influences in Christian Country Music are Dallas Holm, Randy Travis, The Wolfe Brothers and Clifton Jansky. It wasn't until 1992 that Rick went into the recording studio to record his first gospel cd which was a mixture of country gospel and contemporary. After deciding not to release this cd Rick "tweaked" his style of music somewhat and 3 years later returned to the recording studio and recorded a pure country gospel cd. Rick continued singing in churches and one of his favorite and most requested songs was Heal Me written and originally recorded by one of his influences, Dallas Holm. With his smooth resonating baritone voice and ability to make the song his own, it is no wonder that the congregations were left in tears upon hearing this song. In 1997, Rick put singing on hold. Then in 2002, he returned to singing solo during revivals and also as the music director for his local church. Rick continued his musical ways in 2003 when he wrote his very first song with friend, Nashville songwriter and publisher Harry Harless. The 2 have continued their relationship as friends and writing partners and have written numerous songs together including the song posted on this website, Believer, which is published by Mountain Angel Music of Nashville, TN with BMI holding the licensing for the songs. Only time and God knows what is in store next for Rick, but you can rest assure that whatever it is, it will involve music and will be exciting.
