THE MILWAUKEE NETWORK FOR SOCIAL CHANGE
www.milwaukeenetworkforsocialchange.orgThe Milwaukee Network for Social Change promotes responsible living through participation in direct action at a community level. We believe that as members of the Milwaukee community we share in the responsibility of promoting the ideas of neighborhood partnership, self-sustainability through the re-distribution of excess goods, and fostering positive social relationships that enable the open discussion of cultural, political, environmental and social matters.
"What Is FREE CULTURE"....Free Culture is belief in the idea that the overabundance of goods disproportionantly distributed throughout the community can, at its current level, feed, clothe, and sustain the peoples of Milwaukee at no cost, and with no dependence on burdening excess production. Free Culture is a life choice...It is a rally cry against the corporate status quo...It is an attempt to visualize Milwaukee for what it can be...a self-sustaining, unified community.
"FREE CULTURE" IN ACTION!
"FREE MARKETS"
What is a FREE MARKET?
The Milwaukee Free Market is, in a sense, a flea market supplied by community donations in which no monetary transactions occur. Its aim is to redistribute to peoples in need, the disproportionate distribution of excess goods in our community. By doing so in the “Free Market†fashion, it allows for a diverse mix of peoples to interact directly by making the simple act of donation a “direct action†community event. The idea is that people can bring things they no longer need and in return take what they do. (we however place no requirements on solely taking in need) This allows for a potential blurring of the overbearing race and class divides apparent in our community. The market is an event open to all where In addition to free goods, services usually rendered with a fee, are offered FREE of charge.
"FREE VANS"
We at mNSC have decided to continue our "free culture" philosophy throughout the winter by directly entering the community at large bearing warm weather clothes for all! For our first event, held outdoors on December, 2nd, we at mNSC handed out FREE winter clothing in the parking lot of St. Benedicts (1015 N 9th St) in participation and solidarity with their well-established weekly soup kitchen. Due to the large response we witnessed firsthand, our inventory, which we had amassed over a three month period spanning multiple community driven events, was nearly completely depleted. This was just a single event of many, covering but a three hour period; proving, without a doubt that the need is there. We would like to see this example of direct-action community participation and social partnership become a bi-weekly multi-venue event, celebrating the idea that warmth is a basic human right and should be denied to no one.
..
In the future, mNSC hopes to expand and offer additional services and eventually have a permanent location for a
"Free Store."
Ah, Love! could thou and I with Fate conspire
To grasp this sorry Scheme of Things entire!
Would not we shatter it to bits - and then
Re-mould it nearer to the Heart's Desire!
"Without just cause or reason, without legal or moral justification, and without a thread of proof that Iraq directly threatens the security of the United States, the Bush administration has headed to war. As I am writing this, bombs are raining upon the defenseless civilians of Baghdad in a continuation of a policy that has already claimed the lives of over 1 million innocent Iraqi people. People just like us who want democracy but find themselves cornered by a dictator on one side, naked U.S. aggression on another, and the oil beneath their country; for which it appears they are to be massacred. Lies, sanctions, and cruise missiles have never created a free and just society. Only everyday people can do that, which is why I'm joining the millions world wide who have stood up to oppose the Bush administration's attempt to expand the U.S. empire at the expense of human rights at home and abroad. In this spirit I'm releasing this song for anyone who is willing to listen. I hope it not only makes us think, but also inspires us to act and raise our voices."

Music is a marvelous thing. I love- Dusty strings on old guitars. Banjo pickin' on cool mountain nights. Hip-hop in the morning. Dancing to soul 45's drunk at a bar. Bluegrass on dry grassy fields. Blues over pool. Acoustic music under the stars. Pianos to drift off to sleep.
WE ARE THE ONES WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!In the decor of the spectacle, the eye meets only things and their prices. Commute, work, commute, sleep...Meanwhile everyone wants to breathe and and nobody can. Many say, "We will breathe later." and most of them don't die because they are already dead...but we...WE WANT TO LIVE! But we don't beg for the right to live. We take it. Not one more day of your wage slavery. Not another job for $6.5o an hour. Not another starving child. Not another police beating. Not another death in Iraq. Not another soul tied to your soup kitchen society. Not another politician saving us from ourselves. Not another SUV melting ice caps. Not another corporate media blurb. Not another Democrat. Not another Republican. Not another church. DARE TO STRUGGLE. DARE TO WIN. –SDS
