Comprised of Martin Brown-swapping his usual Telecaster for a rather cheeky P-Bass who's formerly played with the likes of Martin Carthy, Burt Jansch.
Mick Paice on Saxophone and occasional Harmonica-well known in certain circles, who regularly plays with Dana Gillespie and formerly of the Jools Holland R'n'B orchestra and Lonnie Donnegan.
Bertram Freshnique on Organ and Electric Piano- Who's far too young and devilishly good looking to have the sort of miles under his belt as the rest of the band but who, never the less, played for Immogen Heap whilst at college. Ahem.
These chaps were brought together at literally the last second by Les Morgan of the Ron Kavana band and he also keeps time for Chris Mayfield.
All of these guys are also the engine room for the frankly awesome
'Shedload Of Love'Let us paint you the picture...
Wednesday evening... sitting around a table over a glass or two, Martin and Bertram Freshnique were invited by Les to play the following evening in their local. He informed the guys that it was to be a rock and roll gig... Mostly twelve bar... backing a Guitarist friend of his. Martin and Bertram Freshnique both agreed to join Les and Mick Paice the next evening for a rock and roll session.Thursday evening... Valentines day... Bertram Freshnique, the devilishly young and handsome one, ahem, turned up with his equipment to be met by Les, who informs him that the Guitarist has pulled out of the gig. Martin and Mick then arrived at the scene of the incident, and with ten minuets to go before the band were due on stage, the guys swiftly put their heads together and came up with a list of instrumental tunes that would last for two 45 minute sets.
The tunes were mostly Organ and Sax lead Blue Note numbers by the likes of Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack McDuff, Donald Byrd, and a few Booker T tunes for good measure. The band did a good enough job to be offered a residency once a fortnight and have been playing together ever since.Over the weeks, with some too-ing and fro-ing, the guys knocked a set into shape which they are still adding to.In 'Shedload of Love' Mr Les Morgan is always introduced on stage as
'Les Is More' due to his relaxed natural feel for the Drums.
It seems fitting that this line up is now christened 'The Les is Morchestra'.
