I didn..t choose to become a dancer...dancing chose me.Born in London, to a Spanish Mother and a Dominican father,i soon discovered that my roots weren..t either spanish or dominican, but african, indian american and european.
Been dancing west african dance since 2001 and have had the opportunity to dance and work with some great master dancers. Marc N.dnou from Togo. Marc introduced me to African Dance and the African spirit, Abdoulaye Camará, generously inspired creativity and togetherness,Bouba Diakité taught me to be more confident,Domani Keita, introduced me to traditional Guinean dances, Hadja Sire Dumbouya, taught me that the vibration is more important than the steps and with Moustapha Bangoura i learnt about harmonious composition.
Also spent a few months dancing in Africa (Togo and Burkina Faso) with Cie Woenyo back in 2004.Since 2006 I have been teaching in schools, community projects, and dance studios ("SOU" and "Escola Das 1001 Danças"...) and also give lessons of Introduction to West African Dance. At the moment i Dance with Djamboonda, but am always open to participate in other projects too (Terrakota,Kilandulio, Cie Kouami).
As soon as i can remeber, the beating of a drum or the sound of a base vibrated through me, making me dance and uplifting me to beautiful states of spirit. Ever since, i have been wanting to find these places of positive states where spirit has space and time to grow and expand. For me West African Dance takes us all on an ancestral journey to POSITIVITY, CELEBRATION, FREEDOM, UNITY, LOVE,TRANSFORMATION OF BAD INTO GOOD. And it is for this reason hat i am a dancer.I see myself dancing till the day i "drop", and even then i..ll still carry on dancing in some other form...
