About Me

I am Marjie Cardwell. I do a bit of singing and very occasionally a bit of songwriting. This is a place to put recordings of me singing various songs as they come into my head, as and when my recording technician ever gets round to finishing them off.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Marjie Cardwell - vocals, acoustic guitar, backing vocals and handclaps. David (DC) Cardwell - acoustic and electric guitar, backing vocals, tambourine and handclaps (handclaps are an extremely important part of popular music and should be recognised more often), various other instruments and recording guru (when available lol!). Samuel Cardwell - bass boy wonder. Chris Haylock - drums. Chris, I am not worthy.
Influences: As a singer: Ella Fitzgerald. Honestly. I know I don't sound like her but her tone and voice control is what I try to copy all the time and then it comes out like me. John Lennon. And so many people who are nearly as good as them that I can't begin to think! I'll fill this section up as I go along. I like singers with character first and technique second. I don't like overblown stuff that is all technique and no soul. And I don't like cynical pastiche (although sometimes it's hard to draw the line).Musically: too many to mention - I do sing quite a few sort of folksy things but my musical tastes are extremely catholic and much more 'masculine' than the songs on this site might suggest!
Sounds Like: People say I sound like whoever they either like or dislike depending whether they like or dislike my sound. It's quite funny.

Some info about the songs

The first two songs I have put up are covers of two of my favourites. Dimming of the Day is one of Richard and Linda Thompson's best known songs, written by Richard and from 1975's 'Pour Down Like Si...
