You asked for it, so here it is - my official artist page. For all those who want to know a bit more about the musician BJ.
As you can see - there was and is much more than only the dummerboy of JOE.
Why did I become a musician?
From the day I was born there has always been music in my life. I think there is nobody in my family who is not a musician. So BJ had to become a musician, too. ;-)
In my first days on earth it was my the wonderful voice of my grandma which inspired me the most. I always enjoyed to listen to the songs she sang an I still do. Her husband, rest in peace grandpa, played violin and zither. He even had a band himself in the days of WW2 when he was arrested in russia. I think he used music to keep all the horror of war away - to flee for a few minutes from all the pain. Everytime when he started to play it looked like he was in a world far away from everything bad...
My aunt became a very famous choir-singer and church-organist, my mother played guitar for a few years.
My other grandpa played guitar and accordion in some pubs but sadly had to stop when he lost a finger. Now he enjoys to play keyboards. His first guitar, which he bought in the age of 14, is one of my greates treasures - It is the guitar with wich I started to play guitar, too.
One of my oncles is guitar-player and vocalist. My father plays guitar and sings, too, and it's always funny to listen to him. He creates songs when he plays them - mainly the songs make no sense and the lyrics are totally crazy.
When it all started...
Another person who insired me very much was my first teacher. He was teacher for german, math and some other things - but he only tought that f*** stuff for a few hours. In the majority of cases we sang songs while he was playing piano. And like many little children I started to play recorder - but it was very boring...
I think it was in the age of 10 when i started to play keybords. I did this for a few years, but I did not take much time to notice that keyboards are not rock'n'roll enough for me;-).
So I took my grandpa's guitar tought myself how it works and played until my fingers bled. By the way - the strings on this guitar were about 30 years old and very rusty. But I am still alive.
BJ and bands
Two years after I started to play guitar I bought my first e-guitar. One week later I was guitarist in my frist band. A very funny punk-rock band - noone knew how or what to play - but we DID IT! And because this band was in need of a singer I started to sing, too. 7 years of fun and chaos - a time which I never want to miss.
During that time I played bass in a school-musical, sang in another punkrock-band and played guitar in a hardrock band.
After that I played guitar in a metalband, became shouter and vocalist in another metalband and played guitar in a goth-rock band.
BJ on Extasy
In 2006 I met this very tall guy called Chai. He told me about his band called Jesus on Extasy. So i listened to the songs and loved them. But somethin was missing - right, drums. In december 2006 we had a discussion about this band and... oh - like this:
"The songs are great!" - "Yeah, but something is missing." - "Real drums?" - "Yeah, real drums. Didn't you say you can play drums?" - "Yes... a little bit..." - "Okay, 2 month next gig. Practice drummer!"
Sounds funny but for me it was very, very, very hard work. 2 month to teach drums to myself... My hands bled, my body pained everywhere... But somewhere in between euphoria and fear of failure I just did it ;-).
After half a year of playing live-drums I became a full member of Jesus on Extasy - and I still do not regret any single second!
