About Me

The Motor City born and raised Kevin Russell has a very unique blend of rock-blues and soul. "It's a Motor City thang" as Kevin says! Moving to Hollywood in the 70's to follow his dream Kevin formed the now classic rock band 707. Scoring a couple of big rock radio classics : "I Could Be Good For You" and "Megaforce". 707 toured playing arena's throughout the early to mid 80's. After calling 707 quits in the mid 80's Kevin joined forces with Bill Kreutzman and Brent Midland (Grateful Dead) to form Kokomo. They played sold out show after sold out show all around the U.S.Next Kevin got together with ex"Stray Cats" Slim Jim Phantom/Lee Rocker and David Bowie guitarist Earl Slick. The band scored an MTV rotation favorite "Men Without Shame". Kevin toured and recorded with the band, but left the group to join up with the band Taxxi. Kevin recorded and toured with Taxxi. During this time Kevin and Clarence "The Big Man" Clemons became good pals in the Bay Area. They put a touring band together and hit the road. The Red Bank Rockers. Playing to sold out crowds across the U.S. Their shows would often feature special guests like: Joe Walsh, Bruce "The Boss", Jackson Brown, Jon Bon Jovi, Ritchie Sambora,South Side Johnny to name a few. Good times!During this period Kevin was also doing plenty of recording sessions and making records for other artists as the hot guitarist! In the 90's Kevin concentrated on playing blues/R&B and producing many other records for artists for Blues Bureau International Records. Kevin also produced solo blues cd's for guitar legend Rick Derringer among others.Kevin is a contemporary artist known in hip musical circles and by fans worldwide. He is a provocative player and his daring spirit is always apparent.Kevin has been a well-respected artist for many years by innovators, his peers in the music industry and fans alike. Kevin has always believed you must grow musically and continue to strive forward and always remember "the best is yet to come".Kevin is considered a very soulful melodic guitar player as well as a singer/songwriter and record producer. He has produced numerous projects for other artists. Kevin also has his own record label (Shag Cut Records) and state of the art digital recording studio. In talking with long time friends, other artists, and fans they all seem to share a common view, which is you can feel Kevin's heartbreak, struggles and triumphs that connect us all to the music. I think Kevin says it best, .."music has been the true healer throughout my life and my way to share the love"Please pray for peace....Also please visit: www.myspace.com/kevinjoelrussell www.myspace.com/kevinrusselldetroit
