PRESS
...Roman Kofman’s choice of soloists was not random. An unusual duet of violoncellist Ivan Kucher and accordionist Roman Yusipey has been tried for several years of performances and earned the highest opinions of music lovers… So even appearance of these excellent performing musicians on one and the same stage can be regarded an outstanding event.
Yulia Bentea, Kommersant, Weekend, no. 74, April 25, 2008
…In Kiev Gubaidulina’s pieces of music are performed from time to time, usually, at modern music festivals… But special performance and even by an acknowledged orchestra and renowned soloists is quite another pair of shoes. By a lucky set of events, composer Giya Kancheli was present at this concert and he personally congratulated conductor Roman Kofman and soloists Ivan Kucher (violoncello) and Roman Yusipey (accordion) with the impressive performance of his friend and colleague’s piece. The compliments were well-deserved: the musicians’ interpretation of “The Seven Words…” was profound and ardent... Continuous groans and nervous beat of the accordion and violoncello were pierced with despair and tragedy. And with tireless lust for faith and light…
Yulia Bentea, Stolichnye Novosti, no. 1 (197), January 15-21, 2002
… Discerning and keen accordionist Roman Yusipey is playing his heavy, complicated and inherent as a Siamese twin, instrument…
Maria Khrapacheva, Afisha, no. 11 (256), March 22-26, 2006
… It is noticeable that accordion music being a new passion of Ukrainian composers is definitely owing to appearance of such a performing musician, who has fine appreciation of the author’s idea and is able to incarnate it…
Tetiana Kondratyuk, Musyka, no. 3, 2006
…With his programme “Gender Paradox Music”, Ukrainian accordionist Roman Yusipey got a hurricane of applause. Pieces by Karmella Tsepkolenko, Lyubava Sidirenko, Anna Gavrilets, Alla Zagaykevich, Victoria Polevaya and Sergey Zazhitko sounded in section “Solo-solissimo. ONLY YOUsipey” laconically and perfectly, having almost variety splendour...
Maria Gudyma, Kievsky Telegraf,
no. 17 (311), April 28-May 4, 2006
…One of the climaxes of the concert was the performance of young accordionist Roman Yusipey, a virtuoso having a great command of technique. But at the same time one realizes that the Yusipey’s gift is beyond the methods he uses and it is not the technique that makes his art and skill live and breathe…
Olena Pozdnyakova, Den’, no. 148 (2370), September 5, 2006
...Concert of Yusipey and Co strengthened the accordion’s hand as an all-round instrument able to show the widest range of images. The programme of the night comprising pieces by Ivan Taranenko, Sophia Gubaidulina, Alla Zagaykevich, Maka Versaladze, Tatiana Sergeyeva, Giya Kancheli and, of course, Astor Piazzolla was recognized to be the most “vivid” and popular at the festival. And performance of Victoria Polevaya’s piece “Ekhos” drama per musica was significant not only for this concert in particular, but for the whole festival.
Elena D’yachkova, Zerkalo nedeli, no. 13 (488), April 3-9, 2004
