Criminal, heretic, scientist – in the subterranean city-state of New Providence these words are all synonymous. They can also all be used to describe Paris Endicott, an outlaw scientist who has dedicated his life to the eradication of a terrible plague that grips the earth’s last metropolis. By day Paris conducts research and experimentation. By night he uses his scientific skills in the advancement of profitable crime in order to pay for his research and support his family. Set against the backdrop of a cavernous, smog filled world of steam powered machinery and arcane forces, Paris finds himself at odds with a dangerous priesthood called the Magi. This ruling class of religious zealots blames science for the sins of the past. Practitioners of the higher sciences are regarded as heretics and enemies of the state.
