About Me

Hey Everyone,
My name's Patrick. I'm a juggler, a paranormal investigator, a writer, a game designer and an entrepreneur.
I'm 23, and live about an hour away from San Francisco. I really enjoy living in the SF Bay Area, because there is so much to do, and things are very accessible. I can't think of any other place I've lived where I can hop on a train and be in a metropolitan area in less than an hour.
I was born in Groton Connecticut in 1984, in Groton Naval Hospital. My dad was an officer in the US Navy, and worked on nuclear submarines. He served 11 years in active duty, and retired in the late 80's as a Commander. My mom stayed at home raising me and my two older brothers. I love my parents very much, and look to them as role models. My dad is a perfect example of hard work paying off. He and my mom started their new family with almost nothing to their name, and he is now enjoying a successful career and recently bought the lakefront house they will retire to. My mom is the embodiment of compassion and patience, and I owe her so much. Together, they constantly remind me that two people can truly love each other. Last year, they celebrated 30 years of marriage, and are looking forward to 30+ more years.
Over my life, I've moved numerous times. I've lived in Connecticut, Washington, Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and California. I remember always being excited about moving, and thinking I was weird because everyone around me was sad. I was excited about making new friends and learning about new places. The longest I've lived somewhere was 5 years. I went to 2 different high schools; a 200 student Catholic high school (in Pennsylvania) , and a 3,000 student public high school (in Texas). Looking back on it, I preferred the Catholic high school much much better. The classes were smaller, and the community was very close. One of my major regrets is that I chose to leave before my Senior year. If I ever have kids, I am going to either home school them or send them to a parochial school.
My eclectic taste in hobbies began when I was 10. I saw a group of jugglers (Laser Vaudeville), and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Over the next 5 months, I taught myself how to juggle. I've been hooked ever since, and since then have taught many people to juggle. I have never met anyone who could not learn this skill with consistent practice.
When I was 14, I started becoming interested in paranormal phenomenon. I did investigations on my own and loosely with others. In 2006, I formed 'Diablo Valley Paranormal'. The team quickly grew to 9 investigators. In early 2007, the entire team decided to leave and join another paranormal project. This devastated me, as I considered many of these team members close personal friends. After wallowing in self pity for a few months, I decided to 'get back into the game' re-form the group. We've again grown to about 10 investigators, and are now one of the most active teams in our area.
One of my other hobbies is designing games. I like designing anything from board and card games, to Live-Action RolePlaying and computer games. I love playing around and tweaking game mechanics. This really brings out my analytic side. I love making small changes in the rules of games I create, and seeing how it affects the game as a whole. One game I work on every now and then is called 'Cars and Corpses (TM)', which combines vehicular combat and shambling zombies. Another one that is unnamed puts players in the role of modern day shamans, who travel around a city building shrines to elemental spirits, using the gained favor to cast spells against other players. I also actively participate giving direct feedback to the developers of a certain online game, and hope to run my own some day.
Professionally speaking, I have spent most of my career in retail. From what I remember of any of the places I've worked, it was something I didn't enjoy very much. My favorite thing to do, however, was customer service. For some masochistic reason, I liked dealing with angry customers, and having them leave with a smile. That was almost euphoria-inducing. But, for the most part, I felt like a robot. There is a part of myself that I would sort of 'put away' for safe keeping everyday before going to work. And you know what happens sometimes when you put something away for safe keeping... You forget where you put it. I ended up misplacing my true self, and it affected everything. My relationships, my friendships, my passions and hobbies, my family life; Everything that was important to me.
It wasn't until I had a mutual break with my last job, that I began a quest to find my true self. I knew that I needed a lot of personal development to do that. The first thing I did was talk to a Navy recruiter. School wasn't working out for me, and neither was the retail mill. After speaking with my recruiter, I decided that the Navy was something I needed to do, and I enlisted. I'm proud to carry on the Naval tradition in our family, and look forward to serving our country with Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
The second thing I did was to find a mentor who really cares about me. This mentor has led me on a path of self-discovery and empowerment; something I wish to share with others. She has made me realize that I have much to give and teach, and so I have made that one of my life goals. I've heard it said "There is no higher calling than service to others." I am beginning to understand what that really means, and have dedicated myself to helping and empowering others to live their dreams, in the same way that I have been helped and empowered.
I really look forward to hearing from you.
Tell me *your* story.
