Straddling the cultures of Japan, the "Land of the Rising Sun," and the sunsets of Southern California, DJ 8CTOPUS is the ultimate 3rd Culture Kid. Not much is known of the formative years of this DJ / Multi-Instrumentalist / Producer / Remixer / Turntablist as the elusive artist divulges very little of his background.With an array of influences spanning just about every genre of music, the melting pot of his East-West culture extends to his creative process. Tokyo's Otaku and Cyberpunk ethos meld with Jazz and Hip-hop; traditional Japanese and Chinese music; Drum-N-Bass, New Age, Downtempo and Trance.With his new release METRO, DJ 8CTOPUS fuses together the sounds of Pan-Asia with western Ambient and Chill-Out music. Working with artists such as hip-hop superstar Kanye West, The Ahn Trio (Sony BMG Masterworks), New Age pioneer/Grammy Award-winning composer Kitaro (DOMO Records), and the production team Tao Of Sound, he brings his compositions and remixes to the world stage.
METRO will be featured on ANA, All Nippon Airways (Japan's largest domestic and second largest international airline) on their SKYCHANNEL in-flight entertainment system beginning August 2008. It will feature DiMAGIC's Euphony Technology virtual 5:1 surround audio. The album will be featured in its entirety on its own dedicated listening channel.
