About Me

At its most powerful, Yvette’s music transcends barriers, uniting people who on the surface may seem to have little in common. She is a Detroit based songstress and keyboardist. With the anticipation of her long awaited CD release, you will be able to hear the power and dedication to her music; a sophisticated, lush, emotionally intense and smooth sound, which goes much further than skin deep. She explores universal themes of love, friendship, strife, loss and determination in the midst of all that life delivers. Yvette comes from a large musical family of seven. She was playing piano at the age of 5, and started private vocal lessons at age 7. “My life has been a blessing of music.” She did her first performance as the lead vocalist of the family group the “Meadowlarks”. She had been introduced to various types of music, starting with Broadway, moving to big band, jazz and R&B. By the time she was 13, she was playing many instruments, outside of the keyboard. “Music was so second nature to me and never required much effort, so I didn’t understand the gift I had until much later in my life”. She pursued her studies of music at Wayne State University and also private study with music scholars Joan Byers and DeWard Johnson. Although she enjoys many facets of music, she admits, she is partial to jazz. She has appeared with international recording artists Norman Brown, Jean Carne, Art Porter, Tom Brown, Miki Howard, and various other world reknown artists. Yvette has been on the local music scene for quite some time and has had a large portion of her exposure with her current group Quarter to Midnite. She has returned back to her own roots and is now working on her solo project. “I love my group and we continue to work together. It’s my dream group, but the other part of my dream is to sit down and play again. Being part of an elite group of females who not only sing, but play music, is something that I’ve always felt is more unique than any other type of performance. It’s the right time to fulfill the rest of the dream.”
