About Me

BIGMOUTH STRIKES AGAIN (Kate Rogers)
The song is covered by Kate Rogers, from her third album titled Seconds, Seconds consists of 8 somewhat surprising cover versions in Kate's downtempo style, plus one new original track, written and performed with Grand Central Records label-mate, Jon Kennedy, consisting of cover versions of artists including The Smiths, Radiohead, The Pixies and Green Day .
HAND IN GLOVE (Sandie Shaw)
This song is sung by Sandie Shaw, who brought this single into the charts, after the poor performance of the original version. The production of this song is noticably more poppy than the original. Sandie Shaw, a 60's singer, unfortunately most famous for the dire Eurovision entry "Puppet On A String", was one of Morrissey's heroes of his childhood. Morrissey persuaded Shaw to come out of retirement, thus giving her her first hit for more than 20 years. Shaw ruins this song with the incredibly annoying lyrics change "So I'll stay on your arm, 'cause you're so charming".
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (The Divine Comedy)
"There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" is off "The Smiths is dead" tribute album, which marked the 10 years since the release of The Smiths album "The Queen Is Dead" - released November 1996
YOU JUST HAVEN'T EARNED IT YET, BABY(Kirsty MacColl)
Kirsty MacColl covered this song for her third album Kite, released in 1989. Johnny Marr also co-composed with Kirsty MacColl and played on another two tracks on Kite.
THIS CHARMING MAN (Stars)
In 2001, Canadian indie pop outfit Stars released their own take on the song on their: A Lot of Little Lies for the Sake of One Big Truth EP.
GIRLFRIEND IN A COMA (Joshua Radin)
Joshua Radin's version can be found on his 2004 EP First Between 3rd and 4th.

Influences:

The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. Based on the songwriting partnership of Morrissey (vocals) and Johnny Marr (guitar), the band also included Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Critics have called them one of the most important alternative rock bands to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s, and the group has had major influence on subsequent artists. Morrissey's lovelorn tales of alienation found an audience amongst youth culture bored by the ubiquitous synthesizer-pop bands of the early 1980s, while Marr's complex melodies helped return guitar-based music to popularity.

The group were signed to the independent record label Rough Trade Records, for whom they released four studio albums and several compilations, as well as numerous non-LP singles. Although they had limited commercial success outside the UK while they were still together, and never released a single that charted higher than number 10 in their home country, The Smiths won a growing following, and they remain cult and commercial favourites. The band broke up in 1987 amid disagreements between Morrissey and Marr and has turned down several offers to reform.
