WHY THE NAME; OR LACK-THEROF ?
(Pt.1) Anonymous: The lack of identity is every artist's plight. To quote a great influence of mine, P.O.S., our work "is just a drop in the ocean (but we) do it anyways hoping". Thus I wear this moniker as a symbol of commitment to my art and to the unconditional support of the art of others; a symbol of support and a symbol of hope. Our world is one in which there exists a class of people whose em-pha-sis on the bottom-line combined with a self-serving agenda tends to foster a culture of blind eyes turned on to culture. The struggle against this force of art-less homogony that plagues our cities and townships is the same struggle faced by a child scribbling in hypo-alergenic chalk on the un-even sidewalk as it is to a man trying to feed his family with his cello and a BFA. This is our struggle, because if you google earth any city that radiates ink stains and string strains, even Madison Square Garden becomes a pin-prick in a couple of key strokes; No matter whose playing. We're all anonymous. And since Hip Hop is my first love and my medium of choice, I personally think the name Anonymous is kinda funny. One of my favorite elements of hip hop which I dabble in occasionally but suck in pretty bad (so I choose merely to support and admire) is graffiti. Now, while there exist artists today who deal purely in pictures and characters, at the core of the culture there has and always will be an emphasis on "NAME" and a burning desire for an elusive "FAME" or "RECOGNITION" (as there exists in any art form) even if it only exists among other writers. Rappers are the same way, everyone wants to "get their name out there" - and I always thought the idea of Anonymous in lights...well it made me laugh....cause it seems sort of pointless and ironic. So, I look at it as a challenge - I have no name - so if I can carve an identity out of the maleable stone of pop culture with my lyrics - then fuck it, it's worth a shot. (Pt.2) {And.On.I.Must}: The subscript is a lot more simple...it originally stemmed from my boy Mike Mass who was like, "Yo, you should spell it like this....and then its got kind of a cool double meaning" and yeah - it sounds dope - but as the name and the music evolved, it took on a less "skin-deep" functionality. And on I must is my painstakingly un-original strive for artistic perpetual motion - the name's Anonymous...And On I Must Go.Hope you dig the music...
