About Me

Scott Foster was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1981. His family moved to Alaska in the fall of 1984. In his tender years, Scott aspired to boyish glories such as rafting, backpacking, fishing and such, yet the vast majority of his energy was spent making ends of the music in his head. Scott’s earliest memories are musical. His parents caught him singing in his sleep before he reached the age of 3. He recalls as a child listening intently to his mother singing along to The Carpenters, his father singing along to The Moody blues, dancing along to the first song he ever heard on the radio— “Jump” by Van Halen. These first experiences to this day ring clear throughout his memory in high fidelity. Many of his childhood mentors took quick note to his extraordinarily developed ability to harmonize vocally to practically any melody he heard. Scott stumbled upon his father's 'hauk-worthy' six string at 8 years old. Oblivious to it's proper tuning he began twisting and plunking away until the rubble of strings became a medium through which his imagination became an audible manifestation of music. He learned his first official chords at age 11 from his grandfather. At that moment his fascination became an obsession. Suddenly homework and chores became a lesser priority than expanding his repertoire of chords. By age 15 Scott was playing the guitar in his high school Jazz band, jamming radio playlists after school with his pals, and composing his own songs. Amid all this ‘guitaring’ about, there remained an asset overlooked— whose value even Scott had dismissed. This asset was his singing voice. One summer at the age of 16 Scott attended a weeklong youth camp at the University of Alaska in Anchorage. Among the many activities to be held was a talent show. Eager to perform, Scott tried out and was admitted with a song he’d recently learned on the guitar—“You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor. When the time came to perform in front of the entire camp, Scott realized that his guitar performance would come out rather empty without some vocal accompaniment. As the shy, spacey teenager approached the stage, he quickly recited in his mind the lyrics to the first verse—the only one in his memory. With eyes closed to hide himself from what he feared were 400 disapproving youth, he sang one verse, one chorus, and then walked off the stage. It was not till he had nearly returned to his seat when he realized the entire occupancy of the auditorium was still clapping for him! At that moment there was only one thought in his mind, “I’m gonna hafta try some more of this singing stuff.”Currently, a twenty-something of a little over 6 feet and 200 lbs, Scott Foster dashes talent on feasting fans that range from South America to the Arctic. He was able to make several musical appearances in Brazil while serving a 2-year fulltime mission for the LDS church. He’s sung his songs before crowds of 5000+ students at various university events while attending college at BYU-Idaho. Reaping praise from Esquire magazine for musically flattering even John Mayer's lyrics in a 2005 Songwriting contest; receiving great expectations from the likes of Platinum artist Edwin McCain; touring the nation side by side with soon to be famed Shaun Barrowes; Scott is here for good and it’s likely that you’ll quite enjoy it. He’s played in venues ranging from blues clubs to old folk’s homes in 20+ cities around the US ranging from Lou’s Blues in Indialantic, Florida, to The Rainbow Bar and Grill on the Sunset strip in Hollywood California.Scott combines pied poetry and ravaging vocals with guitar sauce that will leave you longing for a marinade. He performs fresh interpretations of 200+ pop songs, including material by contemporary favorites such as John Mayer, Maroon 5, Dave Mathews Band, and Jack Johnson; and often times (depending on who’s requesting) is persuaded to unveil one or two of his 25+ original compositions.Scott’s wacky wit and perfectly harmless display of showmanship will leave you retracing your footsteps to the childhood you never knew, the mistakes you wish you hadn't, the love you lack, and the dreamboat you're still chasing. If you think it can’t get any better he’ll show you it can. It's amazing how 12 notes, 10 fingers, 6 strings, and 1 voice can be spread across so much acreage. One thing is for certain… he’ll play all of your favorite songs from past decades in a style such as you’ve yet to hear. If the musical realm were a plot of land, Scott's parcel would be that forgotten one in the vineyard where nobody knew the fruit was so sweet. Scott Foster’s music is un-yielding. It's jazzy but not Jazz; blue but not The Blues; relentlessly hardcore yet unconditionally accepting. Scott seeks to say it as it's yet to be said. He seeks to strike the chord within us all that is dying to be struck. If you’re ever in a tight spot and need a friend to lend a helping hand… Scott Foster is always willing to pull some strings.?
