About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !
JOKE: Three souls appeared before St. Peter at the pearly gates. St. Peter asked the first one, "What was your last annual salary?" The soul replied, "$200,000; I was a trial lawyer." St. Peter asked the second one the same question. The soul answered, "$95,000; I was a realtor." St. Peter then asked the third soul the same question. The answer was "$8,000." St. Peter immediately said, "Cool! What instrument did you play?"%}I've been playing Bass Guitar, double bass, and tuba since 1970. I play both Praise & Worship, and secular music. I hooked up with John Scott and "Heart & Soul" in November 2006. On MySpace is a short collection of songs in the studio for John. The first is my own multi-track bass composition "JB BOOGIE." It is one that my good friend Paige Garwood helped me record in his studio. "JB BOOGIE" is short for "John the Baptist Boogie." I visualize John the Baptist dressed in animal skins his log hair and beard streaming back from the arid wind blowing across the desert wilderness as he travels to proclaim the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The last two songs are "Heart & Soul" songs recorded in John Scott's little studio. My NUMBER ONE GIG - I play bass every Sunday for Worship at Rockdale Baptist Church in Conyers, GA. I have been THE bass player for over 20 years. I started a rotation with another bassist due to my work in storm torn New Orleans for several weeks managing waste and debris disposal at two large shopping malls heavily damaged by "Katrina." I'm bak to being the guy again. God leads us to and through many different events and situations in our lives as we trust and follow Him. I believe this is true as I play with "Heart & Soul" and with "Crush & Run" around the taverns in bothe Conyers, and Covington, GA.

Influences: As a boy in my hometown West Chester, PA (the Philly suburbs), a lot of Mo-Town hits played by James Jamerson and the Funk Brothers behind numerous hits by many black artists. Mom bought the first Beatles records and Sir Paul became an icon and someone I wanted to fashion my playing after, because he had more melodic lines. I have been and always will be the number one fan of Chris Squire of YES, and have even written a few bass lines that had that sound. As a youth I played in a horn band that performed many of Chicago's songs, so I would say that Pete Cetera was a very big influence. John Entwhistle of the WHO... I'm certain as I sit here I could come up with at least a few more names like Greg Lake of ELP, and Getty Lee of RUSH. I have played in the pit orchestra for many stage shows also. I am 51 years old and have played for 38years, since the 8th grade in 1970. I think if you listened to my playing you might hear a little of everyone.
Sounds Like: I have been playing for 39 years. On the bass, I sound like ME! "The Slammin Betty Band" is straight up Rock-N-Roll. "Heart & Soul" has a very diverse sound, and the original songs are country, jazz, and rock. I think you will enjoy all the different flavors!JJ
