JIMMY LANGE-PROFESSIONAL BOXERMany boxing observers have called Jimmy Lange (28-3-2, 20 KOs) a “throwback†to the sport’s golden age, mentioning his tremendous heart, magnetic charisma, positive attitude and punching prowess. These attributes have enabled the popular fighter to remain a consistent attraction and title contender during his ten-year professional career.
Lange was only six years old when his father, Johnny, who serves as his manager, introduced him to the sport at Olympia Boxing Center in Falls Church, Virginia. The Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, Virginia) graduate rose to 21-1-1 over his first five years, earning an unmatched regional following in the Washington, D.C./Baltimore area.
He scored high marks and won fans at the national stage on September 16, 2003 with his impressive third-round TKO of former WBF light heavyweight champion Homer Gibbins live on ESPN2’s Tuesday Night Fights. Shortly thereafter, Lange’s fame rose to new heights nationally and internationally as he starred in the NBC boxing TV show, The Contender, with hosts Sylvester Stallone and “Sugar†Ray Leonard. Despite losing in week eight, Lange was voted back by the audience where he won his “Fan Favorite†match.
Since the show, Lange has headlined all five pro boxing cards held at the Patriot Center, drawing more than 5,000 fans to each. He captured the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) 154-pound Continental Americas’ championship belt in dramatic style with an eight-round TKO win over Fontaine Cabell in his most recent fight held on May 12, 2007.
Lange’s fight team consists of the best in the business with highly-regarded head trainer James “Buddy†McGirt (training camp is held at McGirt’s gym in Vero Beach, Florida); cutman extraordinaire Jimmy Glenn; legendary Angelo Dundee working as chief second in his corner and Jackie “First Lady of Boxing†Kallen serving as an advisor.
