This is the home of EVIL STENCH PRODUCTIONS,back from the stinking rotting grave and now located in north central Minnesota. E.S.P. is a promoter/talent purchaser with a focus on the hard, heavy and extreme styles of music.The stench began to creep forth back in 1988 in the Fresno, CA. area. The first three shows actually took place in Sanger, CA. in August of 1989 was the third gig which featured the legendary SADUS,AUTOPSY & HEXX. Along with locals BETRAYEL & CONFIRMED 187!!!!!!!! The stench was to incubate untill March of 1991 when the return took place @ The Olympic Tavern ( The Oly ) in Fresno,CA. Local thrashers DECADENCE headlined in what would become their last known show. DISPOSABLE NONE would take the middle with Fresnos first Death Metal..MORBUS making their debut. The oder then continued to grow and spread it's foullness upon the weak and sheltered ,who did not understand this noize which was invading their rose garden of corporate fed pollution called music to which they we're accustomed. The Stench later settled in and began to permiate at Fresnos first and only all ages showcase nite club, THE CADILLAC CLUB. Over time this oderous lingering would cause such reactions as CANNIBAL CORPSE, CYNIC, SINISTER, M.O.D., PROPAIN, D.R.I., VIO-LENCE, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, GRAVE, MENTORS, ABCESS, IMMORTAL FATE, SADISTIC INTENT, ENTITY, and so many more. Locals included MORBUS, BLOOD CLOT, SUNDAY SILENCE, SUFFER UNTO, INIQUITY, BODY BAG,INFINITE AGRESSION and the biggest thing to ever hit the stage...CIRCUS BOGUS!!!!( R.I.P. Steve Daniels). A list could never be complete and no list ever good enough so I will not try. Lets just say that there are many more who played and slayed the CADILLAC stage.November of 1994 was the final month at the CADILLAC with such groups as M.O.D.,PROPAIN,MORBUS, INFINITE AGRESSION, D.R.I., BOOT PARTY,GRAVE, FEAR of GOD, INCANTATION and SUNDAY SILENCE. The Stench did a few shows in 1996 with RUIN as the featured act and bringing others such as MISERY SEED, MORBUS and oters to smaller venues.The final show in California was in December of 1996 and was to be headlined by the mighty legendary ACID BATH. ACID BATH ran into problems on the road and had to return to Louisiana.RUIN and INFINITE AGRESSION played the show with a fill in of the club owners choosing.In Febuary of 1997 came the word of the accident which took the life of Audie Pitre.This would lead to the end of ACID BATH.R.I.P. AUDIE & ACID BATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now in 2008 in north & north central Minnesota, the STECNCH is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Things are quite different here! In many ways though,it is all the same. The hard and heavy never really have been a flavor of the month,forever fighting for respect and consideration in a corporate monitary based world. Styles may change...terminology gets stolen and definitions are made weak... but the true hard, heavy and extreme will forever remain in spite of the corporate monopoly sheep flocking to the latest marketing ploy.Case in point, The Medium in Brainerd,MN. The Medium is an all ages music venue which stands alone in the Brainerd lakes area. The only true DIY venue which is the basis for hope in an otherwise corporate dependant region is what The Medium means to those who think for themselves. Having brought such groups as SONIC TITAN,AVOIDING X,SEVERED NERVE, birthday pony,SEWN TOGETHER & COUSIN DRACULA & The Scoundrels, this is what DIY is about.
Now with a new stage in place, I have the same hopes for The Upper Room, also in Brainerd. Yess , things are looking up for this part of the state for sure.
