I don't think I've read any fiction books since 8th grade's "Read and Feed" program...after that point I was burned out on reading books forever. But...here are some old school books I read back in the day and really enjoyed...not in any specific order:
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Ramona Quimby, age 8 (plus Ramona and her father, mother, and the rest of the books in this series)
The Boxcar Children series
Choose your Own Adventure books
Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry
Where the Red Fern Grows
Misery
Pops, because he is the greatest dad anyone could ask for.
