Profile GeneratorFuture Ruin Biography
Future Ruin originated with Jason Gilbert and Nathan Hinkle, who met in 2004. Jason was a singer looking for a band, and Nathan was playing drums for another band. Realizing that they shared a lot of the same interests in music, Jason and Nate hit it off right away and decided to start their own band. It was a struggle at first, going through the audition process to find a lead guitarist, and after a few hits and misses they finally met Luke Roush, a West Virginia native who was attending UNO in Lima. Luke was an excellent guitar player, and the guys were psyched that things were finally starting to come together. Now all they needed was a bassist, and a name- at the time, they were calling themselves Subject To Change. However, ironically, the guys had a period of changes themselves. After finally finding a bassist, Josh Morvay, they discovered that the name Subject To Change had already been copyrighted by a group in the 1990’s. So they changed the name of the band to Future Ruin, inspired by a song that Jason wrote, “Rust.â€
Shortly after the name change, the band had a fallout with their bassist, and the search was on once again. They recruited Roger Matlock, who for someone who had never played the bass before, picked it up quickly with a passion and drive that mirrored the band’s. The guys were rocking once again, booking shows left and right and taking the Lima area by storm. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, as Luke Roush graduated from UNO and decided to return home to West Virginia to marry his long-time sweetheart. The band happily wished him luck and immediately began their search for a new lead guitarist. They met Matt Russell, a former co-worker of Jason’s and a skilled guitarist, who hit it off with the guys immediately and brought about a new era for Future Ruin. Who knows what lies ahead for this revolutionary rock band, but we are all excited to see what the future will bring for Future Ruin.
