Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf

About Me

Charizma & PB Wolf met in 1990 as teenagers and soon became a hip hop group. They lived in the Milpitas/ San Jose area and took every opportunity that came their way in the Bay Area, opening shows for Nas, The Pharcyde, Black Sheep, and House Of Pain (among others). They also had the support of many radio DJs including Rob One (RIP) and Sway & Tech and soon got signed to Hollywood Basics records in 1991. They went on their first and only tour of Europe with Money B and DJ Fuse of Digital Underground in 1992. Charizma was shot and killed at the age of 20 in December of 1993. While Charizma was alive, the only record that saw the light of day was a floppy disc 7" single that came free with the Bay Area hip hop fanzine "The Bomb".In 1996, Peanut Butter Wolf started his own record label Stones Throw Records with a couple of songs he did with Charizma called "My World Premiere" and "I Got Methods". In 2003, 10 years after Charizma's death, PB Wolf released all the songs they recorded as an album entitled "Big Shots". Every song on the album was fully written and recorded by the duo while Charizma was alive (no remixes or redoing updated tracks posthumously like Biggie or 2Pac). Now, Charizma's memory is kept alive in ways as varied as the Tony Hawk video game "Project 8" to being sampled by artists like the Freestylers, Madlib, and Dilated Peoples.
