Cachaça
Cachaça, (ka-sha-sa) a Cu-Brazil-Rican-Jazz Band from Athens, offers a refreshing blend of Samba, Bossa Nova, Tango, Caribbean Folkloric, Swing and more. Named after highly potent Brazilian sugarcane white-lightnin', Cachaça is not your typical jazz band.
Formed in Summer of 2005 when longtime Athens musicians Jake Mowrer guitar/vocals, and Jim Coley on upright bass, both formerly of gypsy jazz outfit Hot Club of Athens, paired up with the fiery percussion team of Ryan "Manito" Wendel & Kane Stanley of ¡MOYUBA!, who move gracefully between an array of congas, cajons, pandieros, shakers, bells and whistles. While holding several jazz residencies in Athens over the past three years and playing for weddings and parties, Cachaça was also honored to be selected as entertainment for the Brazilian contingent of the U.S. Social Forum in Atlanta Summer of 2007, and more recently performed during the 2008 Athfest Music and Arts Festival.
