About Me

Chasing Phoenix
A five piece band developed of orchestral, session, & singer-songwriter talents
based out of Austin, TX.
With their fresh soulful pop, reggae, jazz and rock infusions of colorful sounds,
they are sure to win any listeners ears.
Jeff Sturms, CEO and Owner of Catatonic Records, first picked up to Chasing Phoenix in 2007 seeing that this band had something special to offer.
Soon after, Chasing Phoenix found themselves in the the studio being
produced by Mr. Sturms & signed as feature artists on the Catatonic Record,
releasing the first
5-Song EP on Catatonic Records titled
"King Size Bunk Beds".
As a featured group of the label, Chase Dean (Lead Singer & Songwriter of Chasing Phoenix) decided to direct his focus as the "spoke person" of the group and pushed his way out in the world of touring, making a new fan base, friends, and networking along the way.
The Winter of 2008 Chase headed out on tour to help promote the EP by doing solo performances on a Mid-Western US tour.
A full length album for Chasing Phoenix will be released in the Summer of 2008 during his Summer and Fall touring.
Currently, Chase is continuing his journey and music career, traveling and touring through US doing solo acoustic performances promoting the full length album with intentions of returning back to the solo played areas with the full band for live performances.
If you're in to good times, great music, and having some good 'ole fun... with some sexy soul and sultry lyrics then you've found the band for you!
Thanks for the love and support!

“Local band chases new acoustic rhythm”

-Whether they’re playing in their hometown of Austin, or in one of the venues in Lubbock, Chasing Phoenix has garnered quite a following. The band, which began three years ago, consists of Chase Dean Tutor on vocals and acoustic guitar, Kyle Ortiz on drums, Sean Pace on lead guitar and back-up vocals, and Joy Harris on bass.Though based out of Austin, the band members currently reside in Lubbock, as Tutor attends Texas Tech University. “Kyle and I just started jamming one day,” said Tutor, of the band’s conception. “And [we] said, ‘let’s do this.’ They consider their music to fall in the pop and jazz genres, and are an acoustic group.“I like to see people’s heads bouncing,” said Tutor. “There’s a lack of rhythm in acoustic music, and we’re trying to put the rhythm in it.”The band does play some covers, from musicians such as The Dave Mathews Band and John Mayer. However, the majority of their songs are originals, composed by Tutor. They are working on their first CD in Austin. Jeff Sterms, a guitarist for George Strait, will produce the CD.Despite there being four members in the band, audience members will often be serenaded by Tutor and Ortiz alone.“Chase is the only person I can jam with,” said Ortiz. “And that to me is something awesome.”I first heard Chasing Phoenix, which chose their name because they are, according to Tutor, “chasing eternal life,” at a CD release party for SPC music instructor Anthony Garcia, and I was hooked immediately.Their enthusiasm for their music permeated the venue, and I knew I had stumbled upon something great. It was obvious that their music drives them, and they love what they are doing.“I liked getting lost in the song and drawing my own picture for what the song means to me, or how it makes me feel,” said Ortiz.I particularly like their song “Scotch on the Rocks,” a piece about a couple who are on fire for each other, and who decide, despite knowing that their lives are a mess and they won’t be sexy forever, that they are just going to enjoy the night.
