BIO:
Hailing from the dirty factory towns east of Toronto, SUMMER HERO burst onto the southern Ontario punk rock scene in 2002. Bored and stagnated by their surroundings, five guys banded together in a pact to write their own ticket out of the suburbs. Ryan Lane, Jimmy Thomas, Mark LeBlanc, Jeff Seres and Mikesmith comprise one of the most energetic, personal, angst-ridden bands the area has known.
SUMMER HERO is a stark contrast to the music generally associated with their hometowns its not smooth, its not polished, there is nothing contrived about it. Their brand of punk rock is raw, emotional and ultimately personal. It is a direct reflection of their lives and experiences, especially that of singer Ryan Lane. His unmistakable snarling, screeching vocals are the bands trademark, however an even greater contribution to the band are his intensely personal lyrics. Ive lived everything I sing about. I dont try to beat around the bush or disguise anything, Lane says. This is how Ive come to deal with a lot of the shit that Ive been through, and if our songs can help someone else deal with similar issues in their lives, then Im happy.
You need to look no further for proof than the bands debut full length, SOUNDCANVAS (Black Box Recordings/Universal Distribution). This collection of songs captures the band brilliantly as they blaze through track after track of raw, unbridled passion and energy. Their driving rhythm has become their signature, and the band amazes audiences by pounding them with memorable hooks without the polish or the sheen. The call and answer choruses in Heart Of A Fighter and Leave The Light On beg the audience participate, and immerse themselves in the emotion that the band exudes on the record, and especially live.
Its this dedication to creating unforgettable, real, personal music that has endeared the band to fans across the country. Having toured extensively in the Southern Ontario area, as well as a number of trips to Quebec and Eastern Canada, the band has proven their dedication and motivation to work hard. This has landed them on stage next to bands such as NOFX, Good Riddance, Goldfinger, All American Rejects, Silverstein and hometown heroes Sum 41. The band has also been made a part of the Vans Warped Tour for the last three years, culminating in a weeks worth of extremely successful shows this year.
SUMMER HERO has meticulously built their careers on being real, sticking to their guns, and embodying the principles of punk rock, principles that seem to be lost on many these days. 2006 saw the beginning of their real punk rock invasion, and its only a matter of time before the rest of Canada get an opportunity to witness and become part of their SOUNDCANVAS.
Catch SUMMER HERO on tour through the end of 2006, and pick up their new record, SOUNDCANVAS, out on Black Box Recordings through Universal Distribution.
