About Me

In February 1928 on 47th and Parkway in what was then known as "The Harlem Of Chicago" The Regal Theatre was born.
The Regal Theatre Started out as a movie house showing a steady stream of first run films. Later patrons were also entertained by a symphony orchestra, jazz band, and chorus line. Before long theatre-goers had the opportunity to see all the top African-American performers grace The Regal Theatre stage. Such acts as...
BB King, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Count Bassie, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne...
And years Later...
Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, James Brown, Ray Charles, Pattie Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Janet Jackson, Usher, and Immature.
In 1968 The Original Regal Theatre closed it doors and was torn down in 1973 and made into a parking lot. It would not be another incarnation of The Regal Theatre until Ed Gardner, the founder of Soft Sheen, bought The Avalon Theatre on 79th and Stony Island and renamed it The New Regal Theatre. The New Regal Theatre had a 16 year run before closing in 2003.
Now thanks to Ron and Regina Evans buying The Regal Theatre in 2007 the doors have re-opened and another successful run is in the works. Including our ongoing monthly "House of Royalty" House Party Series which can be seen below:
