Shalley Records

About Me

Shalley Records was founded in 1946 shortly after the civil war in hopes of curbing the demand for eight-track players. It's primary goal was to bring decent music to the masses by way of boat, plane, trolley, and the underground railroad. The internet has helped since then, but the foundation still rings true, if you make gold records you get the ladies. Period. Michael Johnson was never good at making music but he was incredibly good at playing it...on his record player. He went to USC and quickly found himself immersed in the record industry after running into Lou Pearlman at a BBQ in Malibu. He spent the next 2 years as an intern for Capitol Records and quickly climbed the mailroom ladder all the way to the top. While working for Capitol, Michael gained loads of wisdom on the ins and outs of the record industry. He began managing bands on the side and realized his calling wasnt management, it was way bigger than that. He started Loco Records in 2001 and signed the Latin sensation Juaniz Gomez, as well as local punk favorites the Clapdevilles. After 3 years he decided to shift gears and get into the rock scene as well as the Latin and punk markets. This is where he thrived. He picked up the Seattle groove rockers the Lost Boys, the Boston-based blues trio Fidel Lightly, and the Canadian roots-rockers Empty Nest. Helping each band achieve some if not all of their goals along the way, Michael continued to build his baby into a giant baby. Based out of Los Angeles still, Michael has developed a stranglehold on the indie scene and has developed and incorporated many modern tactics in an ever-changing digital music world. "The digital revolution didn't kill the record industry, it killed the days of the major label monopoly. Nowadays the indie labels have just as good a chance of bringing an act to the forefront of society as anybody, and I love it." Shalley Records is proud to introduce its latest signing, the Austin-based southern rock/blues band Stewart Mann and the Statesboro Revue. The future is so bright, Michael is now wearing shades.
