Bruce is a lyricist/songwriter in the Houston,Texas. Writing Christian/Gospel lyrics is my passion and my dream is to hear one of the songs I've written playing on the radio some day. I am NOT a singer. Therefore, in order for people to hear my music, I get my Friends to sing my songs.
I want to thank My biggest supporter that is my wife Ruth for being my rock and the love of my life. She had a lot to put up with too...also my daughters and son-in-laws and without their support of offering their opinions, I may have never found my dream, But seriously, I'm a very serious and talented songwriter waiting for that break. I don't really have any set working methods. Sometimes the words come first. Sometimes the music comes first. Sometimes it all comes at once. All sorts of different things happen take place. It's song-by-song thing. I will say that I think the strongest songs for me do start with lyrics. Because if you're only working with lyrics, there must be some strong, really cohesive idea there. Whereas when you do it the other way around, you're trying to fit in the syllables with the music. When the lyrics come first, I think it's better, because you're really serving the words, as opposed to when you're serving the music. It's kind of a hard way to tell a story, but I've worked hard over the years to trim away as much of the fat as possible to get to the point. I'm really trying to stay around sometimes in 10 or 15 lines.
Writing successful in a short story or song only means someone gets to the heart of the matter more quickly. I just admire songs that are written in everyday fashion, I just want to feel like there's something real happing. I am interested in finding musicians who write melodies that will go with the lyrics I have written. My lyrics range from Christian/Gospel/ Country /Southern Rock type songs describing the ups and downs of life, some from my own life experiences. Anyone interested can leave a message at this site.
