Don’t try for a minute to say Lauren Messiah is from Virginia! It’s Northern Virginia buddy, minutes away from Washington, DC (no backwoods girl here). Born a fashionista, she began making clothing for fashion icon Barbie. Fast forward fifteen years give or take- to late nights at design school designing and sewing the night away.Turned out all the late nights and successes on the runway didn’t equal a glamorous job on 5th Avenue. What it did equal was a retail job for New York fashion designer Betsey Johnson. Lauren, always one to turn a bad situation into something she can actually work with, chatted up her customers and landed herself a job at AOL.This internet made Lauren think ‘why become a starving fashion designer when there are so many other aspects of the fashion industry out there’; big dreams for a girl who was actually working as someone’s assistant. Turning lemons into lemonade, she was determined to end her days of picking up lunch for high executives and start calling the shots. Lauren took her passion for fashion and produced her own blog AskFashionKitty.com
If life were a movie AskFashionKitty.com would be the turning point…that blog had wings because it scored her a Producer job for an action sports website in L.A. Sports are great and all but the passion for fashion was nagging- so with a click of a Manolo Blahnik it was onto a new internet venture working as the Fashion + Beauty Marketing Manager for a very popular social shopping network called ThisNext.
What is next? Only time will tell.
