About Me

I am kind, compassionate, caring, a good listener, curious, patient and tenacious. I enjoy creating or maintaining mailing lists in Access and printing personalized labels or letters. A local nonprofit organization calls on me from time to time to do just that on a volunteer basis. With the help of a book purchased in the late 90s, I taught myself to build simple web pages in a week. It wasn't long before I was a volunteer webmaster for a number of nonprofit organizations all over the United States.

In 2000, while working full-time at a stressful job, I began to dream about building a home based business. Instead of dragging myself out of bed at 6:30 AM and making the 45 minute commute surrounded by angry, rude drivers I could enjoy my first cup of coffee around 9 AM on the patio. After a couple hours of productive time I might choose to play with my cats or take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool - or both. The thought of having more freedom and control over my life was intoxicating.

A long time passion has been candles and this seemed like a logical product to market on the Internet. After an exhaustive search I found a nice lady across the country who agreed to make beverage candles and ship them to my customers. For the next few weeks I spent countless hours registering a domain name, procuring hosting, creating web pages, resizing digital images, integrating a shopping cart, researching merchant accounts, etc. This entire process was challenging and rewarding. On January 12, 2001 wicksworks.com was born and it was a glorious day. I had taken the first big step toward my dream. The website has continued to grow with new products added as they pass the "sniff test."

The following year, while researching on the Internet, I found a supplier of candles made of natural ingredients. Intrigued, I ordered one and waited patiently for it to arrive. Meanwhile, I made frequent visits to a forum where independent distributors of these candles exchanged ideas and helped each other. When the candle arrived--a cool and luscious Cucumber Melon--I ripped open the box, popped the lid, and inhaled deeply. It was wonderful. After the candle had burned for a little while, it smelled even better. The scent was even stronger than the soy wax candles I had already tried and burned just as cleanly. A couple of weeks later, after I was satisfied with the product, integrity of the company, and true spirit of teamwork, I decided to become an independent distributor. I brought a few candles into work and placed them on my desk. Soon my demos were sold and I had to bring in some more. This proved that the "smell and sell" method worked effortlessly. Since then the company has introduced many new items, including a line of spa quality bath and body products.

Helping others is something that I'm passionate about, which is one more reason I chose this line of products. Why? For those who desire to build a low-cost, simple and fun home based business and who partner with me, I get to support their efforts every step of the way. It's my joy to help my team members reach their goals, whatever they may be.
