Rashad Houston

About Me

Rashad Houston was born and raised in Westchester County, New York (914), and he recently got out of the U.S. Navy after 4 years of service. He now resides in San Diego, California where he was stationed in the Military, and plans to return to New York soon. Rashad has always been a writer, from poetry to short stories. The words he expresses deal with the environment around him. What he witnesses, what others see, the whole spectrum. He’s an 80's baby so his vision for this generation is to bring back the essence of Hip-Hop. In his short 22 years on this Earth he’s had to, along with many others around him, grow up faster and mature ahead of his years. Never using anything in his life as an excuse, he just picks up the pen and let’s the ink bleed. In 2008 Rashad watched his wife have a serious seizure in the hospital while carrying their son in her stomach. She was only 6 months pregnant at the time. Rashad watched as his wife and son flat lined on a hospital bed. As he held her hand he thought it was all over. All his dreams, his future, and the two people he loves most were gone. As he held her hand he watched her slowly open her eyes and take a deep breath. She squeezed his hand and her first words were, "I Love You Rashad." She was alive. Their son had to be taken out or he would have died. Omari Rashad Houston was born 3 months early at 1 lb. 12 oz. He later spent 70 days in a Military hospital before coming home. What did this do to Rashad? It empowered him. It forced him to work harder, so he could provide a great life for his son and wife. Every time he sits down to write they are in his mind. After this frightening situation Rashad didn't quit, he got stronger. He uses this experience and many others as a driving force in his music. The goal is to inspire people, and to make music we all can relate to. His words are an escape to a place no one can interrupt him. You won’t catch him saying things like, "I Am Hip-Hop," "I'm Nice," "I'm The Best." But, he knows he has something to offer the World. So take some time to sit back and listen, because the resurrection of true hip-hop has begun. Open your minds to the sound of Rashad Houston.
