About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace) Newark, New Jersey has always been a hot bed for talent. As of late, this unique metropolis is witnessing a dance music resurgence, introducing a slew of new party promoters, DJ's, singers, producers and record labels into the spotlight. Among those defining the dance music terrain is Duron Tarik. He brings a no-nonsense approach to both the artistic and the business side of the dance music industry.Duron started his career in the music business as a DJ. His teenage years were spent trailing off to various house parties in the neighborhood. At these parties, Duron saw the power the DJ had over his audience_ he wanted to experience that power! After much insisting, his mom purchased a complete DJ setup for her "budding" turntable wizard. Fine tuning his skills, it didn't take long for Duron to get recognized by his peers. His long time friend Duce "recognized" his talent for DJing, and introduced him to DJ Ray Morales (Heavyhitters).Having missed the "glory days" of the late 70's Disco era, as well as, the early 1980's Club Zanzibar/Paradise Garage period, Duron points to the beginnings of Chicago's "House Music" phenomenon of the mid 1980's as his reference. He describes himself as having the distinction of that "old school, but new school" flavor in his approach as a dance music turntablist. "I was into House songs like "Jungle Wonz", "Acid Crash" by Tyree, and "Rhythm Is Rhythm"...it's just the feel, the mood that it puts me in". Duron cites one of his favorite DJ sets was at the now defunct Upsala College in East Orange, NJ. This high point of his DJing experiences was such in that the DJ booth setup was patterned after a "real" professional underground venue. Also, the three man crew on the 1's 2's & 3's was an uncanny precursor to the three tier DJ tag team at the legendary Body & Soul party in NYC, (Krivit, Kevorkian, Clausell respectively). His attention quickly turned to music production in the early 1990's after being brought in on a studio session by recording artist, Theo Gerideau. Theo wanted some insight from a DJ's perspective. Intrigued, Duron purchased a Korg workstation keyboard and "got busy". Learning very quickly, he again "caught Duce's eye" and his partner, Jose Burgos. Duce & Jose's Soul Creation production company was an established entity when they asked Duron to join in 1994. This trio started working heavily, remixing songs for other labels, as well as, producing songs on their label BassClef. Artists such as Eddie Stockley (Groove On), Club Artists United (Le Millennium/Nervous), Cassio Ware, Dee Holloway (Minimal) Dawn Tallman and Chanelle (King St.) received the Soul Creation "treatment". By the late 1990's, they earned quite a reputation for their distinctive sound.By 2000, due to the changing trends in dance music (ie. hard house, progressive and filtered disco) labels that once were "eclectic" heavily centered on those new trends. For independent soulful dance music labels, they became unable to compete with the non-soulful market. Either they joined the progressive/filtered disco bandwagon or downsized their "soulful" releases drastically. This fueled Duron to formed Eclectic Records, "I wanted to start a label that would be soulful...keeping the tradition of my roots...it's about the songs, writing great songs with musicianship and slick grooves to move the dance floor." Eclectic's first release "Rough Times" performed by Keshia Hall, produced along with Demarco Blackmon received warm reviews in the dance music community. Recently, he has teamed up with producer Tyrone Payton of Intense/Acebeat fame to form LeFunken Productions. Duron Tarik, DJ/Remixer/Producer cum label owner whose career began at "home" is recognized by his peers as a serious entrepreneur executing his dreams one page at a time.Duron “Dipp” Tarik and Tyrone“Intense”Payton officially started their union as Lefunken in late 2002.Tarik, a dj, producer, & label owner, met Payton, a dj producer, songwriter, through legendary house dj Camacho. The two got together to do a project and almost instantly the two bonded over their insatiable love for music. The two are now paving the road for their never ending journey in music.
