About Steve...
His last name is actually Freedom. His mother took him to see the Cape Town symphony orchestra at six years old and all he could think about after that was to play the violin. A year later his mother received an old violin from some distant aunt in the UK. Throughout school Steve studied violin with the Royal School of Music. He also learned to play piano, guitar, bass guitar and drums. He played in school bands and orchestras and eventually jazz and rock bands. He finished formal music studies at the University of Cape Town with Jazz and Composition.
The advent of the Internet took Steve by surprise way back in 1992 and he soon found himself creating engaging web sites, which ultimately led him to Australia, where he was instantly recognised as an Internet Guru. Living up to that title Steve produced Australia’s first Online Auction Engine in 1996 (The Australian). He went on to develop and install customised television systems and private media broadcasting programs for partners throughout Australia. In 2007 Steve returned to music composition and production full time.
Steve loves to synthesize Trance and House music. His energetic, highly original and brilliantly engineered dance creations bridge a gap between psychedelic, trance, house, electro and euro-trance, fusing and blurring the boundaries of the Genres yet respecting each discipline. The end result is honest, mature, sometimes naughty, always hard hitting- yet soulful and intellectually compelling dance, trance grooves and sumptuous electro-house and ambient out vocal songs.
Collaboration with vocalists Ghislaine Saucedo and Trent Chapman resulted in bouncy, hit vocal-trance songs in 2008. The hot new tracks were produced at a Bali-style studio retreat in Northern Rivers, Australia. All of the collaborative tracks were voted Soundclick No 1 songs and Steve was also featured at the No 1 spot on Reverbnation Charts for Sydney. In 2009 Steve has collaborated with vocalist Faith Anderson on a bunch of punchy new cross over tracks in preparation for the release of his latest albums “Wide Spread Freedom” and “Devious Mischievous”, both for simultaneous release in May 2009.
"I love producing dance, house and vocal and psychedelic trance music. Sometimes an ambient track can creep in here and there and I don’t mind that, but dancing is for the best, really!" Steve Freedom
