SJDSamuel Jacob Dever aka “SJD” is already used to the phrase, “not your typical rapper” and couldn’t be happier. With his undying work ethic, crowd grabbing personality, and ever-burning love for Hip-Hop music, this young motivated individual will stop at nothing short of success.Growing up in a small town of Canton, IL, SJD always had big city dreams. An absolute basketball fanatic, SJD really discovered Hip-Hop around the age of 14 when he started to listen to Tupac. This was quite a step up from his Jock Jams and Jock Rock collection (Laughs). He related to Pac not in a sense of the streets, but in a sense of the realness Pac portrayed in his music. Having a musical background in piano and percussion in his middle school band, SJD wanted to create his own form of Hip-Hop music. He had written poetry since elementary school, so he decided to dive into writing rhymes. Fate would come into play the following year when SJD met the infamous MOA aka Marcus Offutt at the local YMCA shooting hoops. MOA had moved from California and they became good friends and teammates on the high school basketball team. The two quickly discovered they shared a passion for Hip-Hop and MOA also introduced and mentored him in something he always wanted to get into which was music production. Well, years of practice and discussions later the two formed the Hip-Hop group “RhyMen” and launched “Extra Credit Records.” Their vision had been born.After two years of Junior College basketball at Spoon River Community College, SJD is finishing up his senior year at Western Illinois University. There he’s met and worked with another artist “Rill” of the GWAP Team. Along with music, SJD has a passion for business and started the company Extra Credit Enterprises, LLC along with Marcus Offutt, Josh Eich, and Mitch Eich. He also enjoys working out, playing basketball, making a fool of himself at bars, reading, intelligent conversation, making others laugh, and going to the fullest to achieve his goals!!!!!Message from SJDWhat’s up ya’ll?! If you didn’t know, that was myself talking in third person up above (ha ha), but anyways I’d just like to say that I hope ya’ll can take something positive away from my page. If not, to each his own and that’s perfectly fine. I’ve been told I’m a unique individual and along with that “weird”, but that’s cool too because I’d rather stand alone then with the so called “crowd.” My music is based off my life, my experiences, my thoughts, my feelings, my emotions, my opinions, and also scenarios that I think of. I’m not trying to be anyone I am not and I do know who I am capable of becoming. If you like my music awesome! If you do not, that’s cool too. Like I say in “Fly” “I do this for me, not for you.” My life is like a movie and I create music I feel that goes along with it as its soundtrack. I love Hip-Hop music and culture to the extreme because Hip-Hop is all about doing you and positive change, along with creative innovation. Some quick unique facts about me, I have an undiagnosed case of “OCD”, I have an up and coming Youtube show “SJD TV”, I am a pure independent when it comes to politics, Dominoes Pizza prevents any hangover I may receive, I am involved in several business ventures, and I absolutely love life and will stop at nothing to achieve my goals!
