Gilbert Artman (percussions et claviers), François Mativet (guitare), Jean-Jacques Miette (basse, contrebasse), Dominique Triloff (claviers), Philippe Bolliet (saxophones, clarinette) , Jacky Chantrier (sonorisation) fondent le premier Lard Free.
Gilbert Artman (percussion and keyboards ), François Mativet (guitar), Jean-Jacques Miette (electric bass, double bass ), Dominique Triloff (keyboards), Philippe Bolliet (saxes , clarinet) , Jacky Chantrier (sound engineer ) were the members of Lard Free 's first set up.
Première reconnaissance au Tremplin du Golf Drouot à Paris en 1971.
The band gained recognition first at the Golf Drouot tremplin in paris in 1971.
Gilles Yepremian du journal "le Parapluie", devient le manager de Lard Free, et plus tard d'Urban Sax .

Robert Wood (vibraphoniste) se joint ensuite au groupe pendant quelques temps  (seul témoignage de cette période sur le disque "Unnamed").
Robert Wood (vibes ) then joined the band for a while ( the only recorded memory of his part in the band is on the "unnamed " record on Spalax.)

En 1973 est enregistré le premier album de Lard Free:"Gilbert Artman's Lard Free" ( Vamp Records) : Gilbert Artman (batterie, piano, vibraphone), Hervé Eyhani, (basse, synthétiseur ARP), Philippe Bolliet (saxophones) et François Mativet (guitares).Â

En 1975, deuxième album de Lard Free avec une formation différente: "I'm around about midnight" (Vamp Records ) : Gilbert Artman (batterie, percussions, vibraphone, orgue Hammond et saxophone ténor), Alain Audat (synthi VKS 3, sax ténor), Antoine Duvernet (sax alto et flûte), Richard Pinhas (guitare, basse, synthé ARP et VKS 3).Â
In 1975, second album from Lard Free with a different line up : 'I'm around about midnight' (Vamp Records ) : Gilbert Artman (drums , percussion, vibes, Hammond organ and tenor saxophone), Alain Audat (synthi VKS 3, tenor sax), Antoine Duvernet (alto sax and flute ), Richard Pinhas (guitare, bass, ARP et VKS 3 synths).
