About Me

Folake is a Nigeria-born actress who grew up between London and Nigeria and has now been settled in New York City for a little over five years.
In just a short time she has not only pursued an acting career but has successfully obtained a BA in Theatre from The City College of New York with Honors.
Since Folake's move she has had the honor of working with theater directors such as Alfred Preisser of The Classical Theater of Harlem in their production of 'Trojan Women', Rob Barron of TheaterWorks/USA in 'Angels In America', and Harland Meltzer of The Colonial Theatre in 'The Vagina Monologues'. She also played the lead role of Sally Bowels in 'Cabaret' at the Aaron Davis Hall Theatre in Harlem from May through Summer 2005. In film/TV, she had a principal speaking role on an episode of 'Law and Order'
Folake also plays the lead role in the film 'When They Could Fly' (www.whentheycouldfly.com) which is currently in festivals around the world and just won BEST SHORT and OVERALL BEST FILM at the 'Texas Black Film Festival'.
The festival had a lot of amazing films, including a documentary by Queen Latifah, an amazing future film called “My Brother” with Vanessa Willians. Many of the film had over $1 million budgets and 'When They Could Fly' with a budget under 50K left all those films behind. As a result WTCF was automatically qualified to the 2007 AFI Dallas International Film Festival and from now on, in Texas, WTCF will be under Texas Black Film Commissioner umbrella.
