About Me

The Marshall Chess Club is one of the oldest chess clubs in the United States. The club was formed in 1915 by Frank Marshall, the U.S. Chess Champion from 1909-1936. Some of the members of the club have been Reuben Fine, Edmar Mednis, James Sherwin, Larry Evans, Andy Soltis, Anthony Santasiere, Fred Reinfeld, Arthur Dake, Albert Simonson, Herbert Seidman, Stanley Kubrick and Hikaru Nakamura.The club had several temporary meeting places until it permanently moved to 23 West 10th Street in New York in 1931.The club has been the site of several rounds of the U.S. Chess Championship, and Bobby Fischer played in the 1965 Capablanca Memorial Tournament being held in Havana, Cuba via teletype.We invite you to come and visit the club the next time you are in Manhattan.
