The Red Hand “Get Made” Screenplay Competition was founded to help aspiring screenwriters overcome the often insurmountable Catch-22 that guards the gateway to a screenwriting career: You can’t get work until you’ve done work.In the past, the only way to bypass this catch was to “pay your dues,” a euphemism for getting screwed with your pants on. First time screenwriters throughout film history have signed incredibly unfair contracts for miniscule, if any, pay and practically given away their babies to see them mutilated beyond recognition by production companies only interested in turning a profit. They have done this because they needed the credit. This competition aims to give aspiring screenwriters another avenue to that goal. A fair and lucrative one.Unlike other competitions, our prize immediately transforms the winner into a professional. Our partners, Red Hand Productions, will produce the winning screenplay. In addition, they invite the winner to be involved in all aspects of production of the film, from casting to editing to the marketing to distributors. The screenwriter will also receive thirty percent of the producer’s profits.With all this, the winner will have leapt over the initial hurdle everyone must face, and landing gracefully, they can begin a new race. A race of furthering their career, no longer stuck running in circles in front of the starting line.
