About Me

I try to remain as clear-headed and non-judgemental as possible, even though I'm terminally self-aware of my own neurotic behavior and increasing anxieties toward other people. I haven't figured out yet how to respond to these developments - whether increased awareness is a beneficial tool for analyzing and correcting the flaws of one's character or whether it just serves to compound the level of stress and egocentricity. Artistically, I'm always trying to branch out, surpass myself, discard cliches, experiment with new forms and idioms, find the actual honest ideas inside of my creations and filter out the pretentious bullshit that I subconsciously insert to guard myself against fears of emotional vulnerability or that I might not have anything worthwhile to say. I rarely like anything I make over a year after I've made it, although I often find certain aspects to admire. Hopefully this means I'm making some forward progress, but I'm not sure that there even IS a such thing as progress. With age I've left behind childish thoughts of record label deals, even on an indie. I doubt many people are interested in what I do, but that doesn't bother me. If I can find one good idea that is honest and pure and original and flesh it out in a way that is satisfying to myself, I will be happy. If it helps me to connect with someone else, even better. As of yet, it hasn't happened. In fact, it's sort of embarrassing to share some of the things I'm sharing here... whether my songs or drawings, they're just completely open pages of my mind at different points in my life and they make display of a great deal of my immaturity and failures as a human being. Nonetheless, I think it's silly to make a song or picture if you don't share it with anyone, so I share everything with everyone. Hopefully you'll get something out of it.

"...the new, Cody Gaisser-produced affair is wilder, bluesier – and more focused. Frankly, it’s a joy... Fine songs from Mr. Gebhardt, inventive production from Mr. Gaisser, great playing and fantastic feel from everybody involved. Recommended." - Andres Roots, Blues-Finland.com (Jun 21, 2007)

"[Gaisser] put enough ass into it to make a high hat and a floor tom sound like a whole kit and to keep a whole roomful of jaws on the floor." - Lee E. Bains, The Great Wall of Birmingham (Mar 10, 2008)

"The biggest contributions come from Cody Gaisser of The Longships... his wacky production ideas are all over this CD... The result is a lot of fun to hear." - Matt Osborne, Shoals Sound (Nov 14, 2007)

"A musical epiphany. [The Static's] set was one of those instances where the band to genuinely enjoy what they’re doing and I’ve never seen so much energy. There was handfuls of glitter flying thru the air. There was this wave of panic through the crowd as everybody fought to get to the microphone." - Jinn Kaufman, Nuvo.Net
