“When did being your self become so different?” In an age where progressive music is slowly making its way back into the forefront of hip hop, The Martians’ innovative, energetic rhymes and party infiltrated beats effortlessly joins the old and new school techniques of hip hop while setting them apart from the average hip hop duo. With the goal of “pushing the envelope,” the Martians aim to create music that will give their audience an epic music experience. Jack Marz born Keith Boyd, (21) and Max Fenix born Sidney Moore (22) met in college their freshman year while attending Indiana State University. Although living in opposite sides of the same city (Gary, Indiana), both Keith and Sidney grew up in a violent environment, but never quite fit the stereotypical demeanor of rap artists from their neighborhood. With the random introduction of meeting each other in the mall, the two students became good friends. Realizing that they both shared the passion for music, eclectic ears in music choice and the hunger for pure artistry, it was evident that the two students were bound to create great music of their own. With their influences ranging from Lupe Fiasco, Common, The Clipse & Re-up Gang, Kanye West and Outkast, to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kenna and Portis Head, Keith and Sidney host a diverse taste in music and began to design their own original sound. After a few years of freestyle cyphers and writing sessions, the duo formed the Martians, naming themselves Jack Marz and Max Fenix. In the summer of 2008, the Martians embarked on the birth of “Martian Mania”, encompassing all the facets of the Martian movement. (i.e. music, blogs, performances, fashion and artistry) Created in a dorm room with the sparse amenities of a microphone and an old desktop computer, the Martians recorded their first work entitled “Spaceships and Beamz,” and released the mixtape on November 1, 2008. With the successes of distributing over 700 promotional downloads and cd’s with no outside funding, the Martians began creating buzz around there local campuses including Indiana’s top universities. The latest mixtape installment of the Martian movement was released on Halloween of 2009 entitled “Nice and Clutch.”The Martianz Present Mind Grenade Vol. 1DOWNLOAD NOW
