First: Th 2nd Amendment doesn't 'grant' a damn thing. It GUARANTEES every citizen the basic, fundamental human right to defend one's self..... whether it be from a common street thug or a government-approved thug wearing the uniform of a soldier, a sheriff, or a police officer.
Second: A lot of people out there seem to think the National Guard is the Militia. Nothing could be further from the truth. The National Guard didn't even EXIST until nearly a hundred years AFTER the Bill of Rights was written, much less ratified by the several states. The militia was, is, and always will be, and I quote: "The whole body of the people, bearing their own arms." (G. Mason, co author, 2nd Amendment.)
Third: Mason and his co-author, James Madison stated many times in the notes and various treatises they left behind, that the term 'well regulated' meant self-regulated, i.e. when a group of citizens formed a local militia, we are to elect our own officers, preferably, but not always, someone with prior military experience.
Fourth: Gun registration has always been part of a cycle... registration, criminalization, confiscation, incarceration, and extermination. Don't believe it? Crack a history book. Hitler used registration lists created by the administration before his, the Weimar republic, to disarm jews, gypsys, opposing political factions, and other social groups, including homosexuals, by the way, before rounding up millions of them and using them as slave labor or killing them outright. Quite a few, in fact, wound up in soap factories.... as basic components. How anxious are you to wind up as lather in some guy's armpit? Many other dictators have used gun control laws in a similar fashion.... Mao-tse Tung, Pol Pot, Josef Stalin, Fidel Castro, Idi Amin, and Hugo Chavez all come to mind. And for those who say 'It can't happen here'.... newsflash.... it already has. Ask former gun owners in California, Washington, District of Criminals, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York and a fair few other locations around the country. I believe Your Democrat poster boy, Bill Clinton (Or should it be 'Clintler?') said it best, while addressing the socialist nitwits of handgun control inc., while collecting a huge campaign contribution check from them.... "Total gun registration is the vital first step towards total gun confiscation". He was quoting his hero,.... Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
And finally, number five. I've read the 2nd Amendment many times... not once have I been able to find the words "But only when, where, or how we tell you that you can", nor the term "sporting use," nor "Only with permission from some 10th grade drop-out chief of police", nor "But only after a background check"; I do, however, find the words "the right of the PEOPLE".... not the state government, not the city government, not the county government, not the federal government, not the National Guard.... the "PEOPLE"
I also find the words "Shall NOT be infringed." I don't know about the rest of you, but my first grade teacher always told us the word 'NOT' is an absolute term. It doesn't mean something different on Thursday. It doesn't mean something different when some loose-lipped self-serving power hungry politician says it. No means No. It means keep your grubby paws off. It means "This is a roadblock beyond which no wannabe dictator or tyrant may pass."
For those of you who want to live under that sort of dictatorship, I have one thing to say.... Cuba is 90 miles or so from Miami, Florida.... jump in a boat and head south.... nobody will stop you, least of all me. If you want your life totally controlled by big brother government, then renounce your American citizenship and leave.... but please, PLEASE, do not come back.
