Hi. My name is Amanda. This website was set up for all the friends, family, and other supporters to help raise awareness and support one another through this difficult time.
My sister and nephew were injured in an auto accident. Alex is okay now, but my sister is fighting off some unruly conditions.
This site will inform you of updates, archive previous updates and articles from A.M Costa Rica, a costa rican newspaper, view pictures, sign the guestbook, leave words of encouragement, find relief, and donate in any ways possible.
Please feel free to use the myspace private messaging system to contact me or email me at [email protected]

Melissa Ardire(Raised in NJ) was in a car accident with her 1½ year old son Alex just outside of Nicoya, Costa Rica on the morning of the June 9th. The impact left Melissa's back broken. The doctors initially said she will be paralyzed from the waist down. She had a very "delicate" surgery known as Spinal Fusion on June 12th, and could use our support more than ever.
While on the ground and injured, someone came by and stole all of her possessions out of the car and left her & Alex alone. She is now facing the potential of HUGE medical bills that she will not be able to pay. She was taken to a better hospital in the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose where she awaited surgery.
First things first though. Alex is fine, though he was thrown from the car, giving him bad scrapes, bruises, and some stitches. He was being cared for by friends at the time.
Alex is now being cared for by family back here in the Unites States. He is anxiously awaitng the arrival of his mommy. Melissa's arrival date was unclear at the time. Doctors said as soon as she is able to sit in a wheelchair she would be able to fly back to the U.S. to start rehabilitation.
Melissa arrived home and was transported to a local hospital. She was later transported to another local hospital that could better suit her needs. Melissa developed an infection in her wounds that is very severe. She is undergoing cleansing surgeries every two days or so. She is now under the care of different teams working to get her health and strength up to start her on the road to a positve recovery!!
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and we are hoping and praying that Melissa will pull through this difficult time. She needs us more than ever to be supportive of her (in whichever ways we can).
Take care...
