Tell Your Family's Story and Help Another

About Me

This page is dedicated to all the children and families affected by autism. The purpose is to share the knowledge we gain every day living with autism in our lives and to exchange information on how to overcome the obstacles and challenges.
In order to do this; we are asking that you send us your stories. Each story will be posted on this page with the surname of the family or the child's name - whichever is preferred. You can include a picture if you choose to, but it is not necessary.
Please send us a message with your story so it can be posted here. In doing so, you can help others affected by this disorder, help raise awareness and fight for a cure. Knowledge is power and with autism - Knowledge is Everything.

Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism.
Autism is treatable. Children do not "outgrow" autism, but studies show that early diagnosis and intervention lead to significantly improved outcomes.
Here are some signs to look for in the children in your life:
* Lack of or delay in spoken language
* Repetitive use of language and/or motor mannerisms (e.g., hand-flapping, twirling objects)
* Little or no eye contact
* Lack of interest in peer relationships
* Lack of spontaneous or make-believe play
* Persistent fixation on parts of objects
