I am here for Dating, Serious Relationships, Friends and Networking

About Me

From my time on MySpace, I gather that the site appeals mostly to an 18-30 demographic. Particularly to a beer-swilling, chest-baring demographic whose limited scrawls (what little is original rather than imported from elsewhere) reveal the sad decline of literacy among the general population. I'm beyond that stage, but I hope I can still relate and that there's a place on MySpace for people as resolutely square (but in full-blown mid-life rebellion), as well as superannuated, as I am. As you can see, my sense of humor tends toward the self-deprecating. I'm smart and well educated (Ivy), but I don't flaunt it (oops, just did!). I'm somewhat worldly; I've studied in Europe, after all, but I cannot claim any "hardship posts" to date, and even my travel hasn't touched on the truly exotic (yet). I run three times a week. I'm a tireless walker but not much of a camper, play tennis and softball from time to time, have belonged to a volleyball league--several, actually. I have taken enough lessons to be a semi-competent lead in salsa/mambo dancing, as long as you're patient. Love to read, love to write (and I'm good at it), love to cook (but I could certainly get better at that, in terms of expanding my skills and repertoire). I'm an avid fan of all the major team sports, and I'm something of a late-night TV junkie. I prefer foreign and older films to Hollywood blockbusters, and I don't get to the theater as much as I like. I played clarinet as a kid (all the way up to marching band in college), and I like classical music as well as jazz, Latin, and rock. I've been in 43 states and hope to get the other seven under my belt before too much time passes. In terms of general demeanor, I am reserved and soft-spoken at the outset but can be quite passionate--one thing I haven't lost since my twenties is my enthusiasm and willingness to advocate for the musical artists I like--about many things. I can come across as earnest at times, irreverent at other times. I'm politically engaged and like to think of myself as a nondogmatic leftist. I truly believe that Bugs Bunny is one of the great American philosophers and that "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is one of the greatest movies of all time.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Friends are fine, but I'm really here to meet a (female) partner. I'd like to find someone who is taller than I am (I'm 5'11.5" barefoot) and is comfortable with her height advantage, with luck, she even enjoys it. If not, it would be good if you can at least clear 6' in heels. I don't regard this as a "fetish"; it is simply a preference, what I feel most comfortable with. Similarly, though I appreciate a range of body types, I gravitate toward those who are naturally athletic and strong of build, with all the confidence that goes along with that, to complement my somewhat more delicate build and explore my vulnerabilities. I treasure your assertiveness, your outgoing nature, your smarts, your sense of play (fair or teasing), your independence of mind and spirit, your inquisitiveness and willingness to learn and teach and grow from the exchanges. I'd like it if you would take the initiative whenever it suits you. Have I made enough demands already? No wonder I'm still single!
