The funniest comment I got recently was: You were a strange little kid weren't you?Hmmmmm...kinda.A good chunk of the credit for an early start in art goes to my mom who has an art background herself and gave me alot of my core reading material and experience in drawing. I like to think of learning as a constant state of evolution and that you should learn not only from your own resources, but from the talents of others. It's always cool to pick up something new (art, random information, anything) from someone if they're willing to teach. Most of my work is in graphite, but still incorporating new techniques/mediums. I'm planning on starting a soft sculpture based series soon using a technique similar to the one below. Photography, sculpture, throwing paint around at a canvas with a high pressure cannon while screaming "jag ska sluka din sjl" (Swedish: "I will devour your soul" (loosely translated thanks to Rob))...it all works :)
Finally finding some peace with myself as I am and allowing my "true self" the chance to show itself and evolve. I've recently rediscovered a passion for writing, especially creative writing and stories that sort of mix and blend things. o:p
I love music as an inspirational tool for art (no...no hymns...). Alot of times it's the music itself rather than the lyrics that sparks an idea or at least gets my mind going on a new project. There's something about music that just allows me to better align my thoughts from fragments of ideas. My latest project in the works (the beginning of a soft sculpture project):
The veins one the eyes are an addition of my own and are frayed rayon thread glued on with a clear, high gloss top coat normally used for plasti-clay. I figured teeth and veining the body/hands/face last time wasn't enough haha.
"Soft sculpture" is less like toys or traditional dolls and more like clay sculpture, except you're sculpting the muscular system with padding on top of a wire and duct tape skeleton. This is an example of soft scupture: God Complex (2001)
Design process/notes for this piece (yep, he does have teeth...it didn't dawn on my until after I sculpted the teeth individually that a plate/bridge kind of set up would have been a much better choice *slaps forehead*):
Anyone who is creative or wants to talk about art/music/other projects in the works feel free to send me a message.
I'll try to put up more projects once I can get them finished (there's over 600 muscles in the human body and while I don't recreate all of them, I do do a fair few so cute me a little slack that it takes a while). Next two in process: Icarus after the fall (it's looking to be a smidge on the bloody side, but not too bad) and a piercing suspension angel (it'll make more sense later, but I blame a lack of sleep and too many 3 am showings of Hellraiser).
